No, I’m Not Wearing Any Socks Right Now

I had a good, rather uneventful trip back to NC. I ended up with my baggage again and was ontime. I must admit, it surprised me that everything went as smoothly as it did considering the snow and ice on the plane in Wichita and the paperwork delay in Atlanta.

Since I had only slept 4 hours before my flight, I had no problem conking out for about 45 minutes which was nice. I was also able to get a decent amount done on my trip, especially during the incredibly long layover.

When I was going through security, I saw that the girl in front of me had one hot pink and one white sock on. She didn’t look embarrassed at all to be standing there in her mixed-matched socks, so I assumed that she was just one of those people who like to go against cultural norms. A girl I babysit likes to where mixed-matched socks for that reason.

Later in the day, I saw another lady with one pink polka dot sock and one maroon one. Is this a coincidence or a new fashion trend? Do you think these ladies (both in their late 20s or early 30s) wanted to make a statement when they knew that they would have to take off their shoes going through security?

Have you noticed any unusual fashion trends lately?

When I checked to see if “conk” was in fact a word, I found that it is also defined as “the word used to describe an aeroplane engine when it fails.” That’s not the type of conking I was talking about; the engine worked just fine thankfully.

  1. Hi Ronnica! Thanks for stopping by the blog and saying hello.

My oldest daughter (almost 12) has this thing about unmatched socks. Years ago, when we had a regular babysitter help with laundry and housework, she would always mis match Rachel’s socks. Rachel thought it was hysterical and encouraged her to do it. I think it was a reaction (survival trait, really) to the constant plight of missing socks.

To this day, RJ LOVES wearing mis matched socks. She’s not in her 20′s or 30′s so I can’t comment on the social and fashion trend sense of it all but I do know it appeals to her quirky sense. :)

    Funny.

  2. When we wear mismatched socks it is because I’m behind on laundry. ;)

Glad you had a good Thanksgiving! Last year’s trip looked AMAZING!

  3. Good observation about the mismatched sock thing. I guess I haven’t been a place to see peoples socks recently. I remember back in the eary 90′s when we would wear 2 different color socks on the same foot. And switch the layer of the color on the other foot. Those were the days:)

  4. Yeah, but wearing two socks on each foot, alternating the colors makes sense…okay, not really. I never did that, but I’ve never been cool, so that doesn’t say much!

  5. How about mismatched gloves? I had no choice but to have my 5-year-old wear mismatched gloves some cold mornings. I have seince bought new ones though that is no guarantee that she would not be wearing mismatched gloves sometime soon. Gloves tend to disappear on me.
Loving your blog, btw, i will be back.
