Let There Be Peace on Earth
Posted in Mixed Bag and tagged with Christmas, Holidays, Song on December 1, 2007For 12 days in the month of December, I’m going to give you 12 days of Christmas or in other words my 12 favorite Christmas songs. These will be both secular and Christian. Along with the song title I’ll give you some background on why it is special to me.
The first song I will mention is “Let There Be Peace on Earth” as sung by Vince Gill. This song particularly struck my fancy when I first got his Christmas CD probably 15 years ago. I thought it was cool because his daughter Jenny, who sings on the track, is about my age.
I don’t agree entirely with the lyrics, but I think it makes a good point. If I want there to be peace on earth, I first have to be right with God. I should walk in harmony with my brothers and sisters, but unfortunately not all have chosen to become sons and daughters of the King yet.
I hope you enjoy this little bit for December! Commiting to blog 12 days in a month is not nearly as big as commiting to blog everyday!

I love that song and its message. Correct me if I’m wrong though, in all the stories that I heard about Jesus he didn’t spend a whole lot of time with preaching to people who believed him. His best friends were the very type of people that most people found beneath them or rather the “wayward” people. He associated with thieves, prostitutes and so forth. He saw their worth even though the didn’t see it in themselves. He preached love and acceptance of everyone. “I say to you love your enemies as I have loved you. For if you just love those that love you what have you gained?” I believe that in God’s eyes we all are His son’s and daughter’s regardless if the person believes in him or not. I don’t think it is our right to choose, we are to love everyone.

Anonymous, thanks for stopping by! You’re right that Jesus befriended the sinner, to the great shock of the religious and “rightous” of his day. He DID see their worth as made in the image of God, as should we. But the Bible is also very clear that only those who choose to be sons of God are. It isn’t something He forces on us. John 1:12, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.”
You can’t be a child of God and be His enemy at the same time. Yet, we were still all His enemies when Jesus gave His life for us. Incredible! Clearly, He loves those who are His enemies, as should we.
