Welcome to My Corner of the World

Hi. I’m not a mommy. So why am I at the party? I love kids. I’m starting to get to the age that my friends are having kids. And, in many ways, I’m still a kid. The best of us are, right?

If you couldn’t tell from the blog title, I’m a Kansas girl, born and raised. Once I hit 18 (and a few months), I left the state for Oklahoma and eventually North Carolina. Though I’ve loved these states as well, I’m a Kansas girl at heart.

I’m a nerd and love to learn. I’m a third year seminary student, getting a Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry. What I love most about being a student is the reading and writing, basically the learning process. I love to read other books too, especially classics of the likes of Tolstoy, Dickens, and, of course, Austen.

Though this passion for reading might lead you to believe that I was an English major, I wasn’t. In fact, I was pursuing degrees in meteorology and math education prior to setting my sights on seminary. I ended up with a history degree at the University of Oklahoma, which I’m happy with.

As a seminary student, it can be challenging to pursue real spiritual growth, not just knowledge that puffs up. I trust that my salvation rests solely in the work of Christ, but sometimes I act as if I earned it or even deserved it. Growing in dependence on God is a rewarding, but often humbling battle.

My passion is working with children in the church. I teach kindergarten Sunday school as well as Awana for 5th and 6th grade girls. I love these children and find it utterly exciting to get the opportunity to challenge them in their spiritual growth.

This love of kids definitely leaves me with a desire to have my own someday, but I’ll leave it in God’s hands to provide the husband if it be His will. In the meantime, I’m happy being single as I get to take advantage of lots of other opportunities!

I also share various smaller passions for blogging, Diet Dr. Pepper, chocolate chip cookie dough, and swimming.

Thanks for stopping by my site and I hope you look around! I write a variety of funny and serious posts…which about sums me up. Feel free to leave a comment to let me know you stopped by!

  2. My family almost moved to Kansas about 6 months ago, but it didn’t work out. That’s okaY! I guess I’ll always be a California girl. :)

My favorite Tolstoy work is The Kingdom of God is Within Us (did I get that right, I can never remember for sure, but you get the idea). What is yours? Just curious, I’m a big Tolstoy fan. :)

Thanks for being such a gracious hostess. I enjoyed my time here! :)

  3. I’m a Missouri Girl who got dragged across the state line kicking and screaming to Kansas. Growing up on the state line there is a healthy rivalry. My father still hasn’t forgiven me. Although I will always be a Missourian at heart, our family has received many benefits from Kansas, especially my youngest daughter. Hope you drop by.

    Have a great party!

  4. Happy Ultimate Blog party!

Hm, Kansas. Well, about all I know about it is driving across highway 70–and it’s darn windy! Oh, and my favorite yarn/weaving shop in Lawrence. Yarn Barn.

  5. I love Anna Karenina!

I would have to suggest The Kingdom of God is Within You (ha! Looked it up on Amazon to be sure!).

I’m also a big fan of his short stories, with The Three Questions being my favorite short story by Tolstoy.

Thanks for stopping by my party! :)
