The Before Picture
Posted in Once I Was a Kansas Girl on May 24, 2008As I move into a bigger room in a different apartment this weekend, I’m not only getting more space. I’m redoing my look. When I first moved into an apartment from the college dorm, I had to decorate with the scheme I had: hot pink. I liked it fine, but it wasn’t my favorite for a whole room. I made a deal with myself that I would have to keep it that way for at least a year, and then I could change it.
It has been three years and it’s more than time to change.
I’m going to hold you in suspense as to how I’m changing my room and to what colors, but I thought I’d give you a good picture of what my room looks like before the move. Note that these pictures are actually from my first room, which was two apartments ago. Since the other two apartments I’ve lived in were the exact floor plan, this is pretty much what my room looked like before I started packing, except mirrored.
Look at those lovely bright flowers. Yes, my bedspread is of the kid’s room variety. It even came in kid’s packaging. It was perfect for the dorms, but doesn’t really scream “I’m an adult.” I’ve since replaced the raccoon picture in the corner with my college diploma.
Don’t mind the dinosaur of a computer. It was replaced shortly after taken these pictures (thanks, Mom and Dad!). I love the matching pink frames as well as the lanterns, but they have one thing wrong with them: they’re pink. All things pink must go.
Thanks to those curtains, my room always looked like a sunset. I actually replaced them with aqua blue curtains the move before last, to try to make my room not so screaming pink anymore. The pink pillows by the window were ruined in the fire by smoke (the casuality of having the first bedroom). No, that’s not a torch, that’s a lamp. It sure looks like it could be a fire.
This is on the opposite wall of the desk. You might notice that I don’t have a lot of space. Every inch of wall space is being used. I hope that won’t be the case in the new place. I’m very thankful for this room though, whose diminsions were exactly right to get all my furniture inside it.
Be looking for pictures of the new room. It’ll probably be a good week until it is all put together, as we’re moving all our stuff on Monday and we’ll have to go back to work the next day. I am excited for the new space and look!

I would have never pegged you for a hot pink room kind of girl! =o) Looking forward to seeing the grown-up Ronnica look.
