The Traveling Tale: From San Francisco to Raleigh

[All times are based on whatever time zone I had my watch set to at the time.]

4:32 AM, San Francisco
Since I have all the time in the world today, I thought I’d write a blog entry throughout the day. if I was even the littlest bit high-tech, I would actually live blog the dday or at least type this onmy laptop as I go along. However, the lack of such new fangled equipment leaves me here writing this in my blog notebook where bad blogging ideas thrive. Better on paper than on a screen near you, I always say.

Right now I’m in the san Fran airport waiting for my plane. I’m not really waiting in the traditional sense as my flight doesn’t board for another 5 hours. Before you go poor-poor-Ronnica on me, you must know that I chose to be here now when the rest of my family had to be here rather than come on a hotel shuttle later. Besides, I really like airports. It’s a great place to read and people watch. It’s also 7:30 Eastern right now, and I’d be up if I were home.

Right now there are 5 others in the gate area with me. My guess is that they are all waiting for a flight to Salt Lake as I am, but they’ll prolly get on the 6 AM one.

6:57 AM, San Francisco
Time flies quickly when you’re having fun. I don’t know that “fun” is the best word to describe my time in SFO, but it is most certainly not miserable. I’ve been reading White, the last book of the Circle Trilogy. I should be able to finish it today. It would also be good if I read a decent chunk of the school book I brought. It’s about time to get out of the vacation mentality.

As I was eating breakfast, the men next to me were speaking Turkish. No, I couldn’t understand it. One of the flights in this part of the terminal is to Istanbul and as I saw that my heart leaped. How I wish that was my destination. I am glad to be going home, though.

8:35 AM, San Francisco
Just a couple scattered thoughts:

If it’s transparent, it’s not toilet paper.

I saw a woman wearing what looked like JNCOs with elastic at the bottom with a bow. They looked like clown pants.

9:21 AM, San Francisco
Why do they close the only women’s restroom that I can access right before I board?

I really like texting. I know I’m VERY slow to get into this technology and I am by no means a teenager, but it is so convenient. I have a feeling I’ll be using up my 200 txts this month very quickly. At least they’re only 10 cents after taht, not like the 20 they were before.

2:00 PM, Salt Lake
I just saw a commercial for Second Life on TV here. Of all types of technology out there that I’m leary of, virtual worlds like Second Life are at the top of the list.

When I walked into the bathroom, I shocked myself by how tan I looked. I hadn’t expected to see as much sun as I did, but it has been uncharacteristically warm there in San Francisco. I was only really cold the first night we were there when it was foggy and when we were on the boat from Alcatraz.

4:02 PM, Salt Lake
I’m just about to depart onmy last leg of the trip. Unfortunately, it’s a long one. I don’t mind flying, especially with a good book, but I’m ready to be done.

Why when they have 6 gates which share a waiting area do they have 4 of them with flights that leave at almost the same time?

7:58 PM, somewhere over the midwest (my guess: Nebraska)
You know this has been a good day. I’ve almost completed the Circle Trilogy, and while sitting here on the plane watching Horton Hears a Who, I thought of a cool blog idea. I won’t reveal it here, but hopefully will soon.

My all-time favorite pen is the Uniball Vision. I use them for everything, especially the colored oens. The only problem is their propensity to leak when they pressure changes. Like on an airplane. Fortunately, I’ve never gotten the ink on me, but I hate losing them.

9:33 PM, over Kentucky
This’ll be my last on-the-road update (should that be in-the-air?). Since I’ve gotten used to West Coast time, I feel very awake right now. I hope that I’ll be able to go to sleep at a normalish time so I won’t be overly tired tomorrow. Acutallyl, I probably will be tired since I have Power Camp after work and working with kids after a full day of work is never tiring. Yes, sarcasm. Seriously though, I’m glad I have the oportunity to work with those kids even if it will be exhausting.

10:43 PM, Raleigh
So I have time for one more. Thanks to some tail winds, we arrived 15 minutes early. Thanks to some Delta baggage handler, my bag was one of the first on the belt. No worrying that it was left behind. Thanks to some rain in the area, my ride is unable to get here yet. No biggie…this (should!) will be my shortest airport hangout by a long shot.

The storms nearby were beautiful to see out the plane window. I always enjoy watching lightning, but it was awe-inspiring to see them close while seeinging stars at the same time. the threat of it added to their grandeur.

Dori’ll porbably be a few minutes more so I’ll pull out a book to read. =)

12:18 AM, Raleigh
It was weird to walk in to the apartment, for a couple of reasons. One, I was expecting to look like it did most of the time I’ve been here, in a state of post-moving disarray. Now that it’s looking more like a real apartment, it was hard to recognize. It was like I had to get reacquainted and reoriented once again! It is great to be back home…

Welcome back! (sounds weird saying that since I’m not actually there) I am 100% with you on wondering why they always put flights out of those shared gates at the same time. I wonder that each time I fly. Ah, the airlines.

The San Francisco is not a bad place to wait in. It’s been awhile since I was there, but I remember they had all kinds of old planes hanging up through the airport (they may have remodeled since then).

Glad you’re home safe and sound. What a wonderful week you had!
