What Could Make Me Feel Like This?

I was in a super good mood Saturday as I was driving to Walmart. I had just laid out by the pool which is one of my favorite activities, and there I was in my car with both the A/C and my KJ-52 cranked up, singing at the top of lungs.

And then I had an experience that knocked the wind right out of me.

Was it the extra busy Walmart (I’ve never been to this one before and realized that this Walmart veteran should not have made the mistake of going at noon on a Saturday), the ridiculous service (they had 5 lanes open, and I had to wait 4 minutes for the door greeter to get me a sticker so I could return the extra set of curtains I had bought), the construction on the road out front, or the steamy hot weather that put a damper on my mood? No, though all of those things certainly could have had that sort of affect on me.

No, it was the first time in my life that I saw gas prices over $4. $4.05 to be precise. As soon as I looked at that Exxon station proudly advertising their $4.05/gallon gasoline I felt like I had been punched in the gut. Who knew that $4/gallon was my breaking point? It certainly made me regret not doing my shopping on the way home from work the day before, thus saving some gasoline.

With this event in my recent past, I am more than willing to join my bloggy friend OneMom in speculating that oil will be back at the more reasonable $50/barrel come July 4th. She looked in her snowglobe to see this, while I had to rely on my trusty Chick-fil-a cup of half-drunk Diet Dr. Pepper to discern this information. Nevertheless, that is the prediction that me and my buddy Diet Dr. Pepper have agreed on. Feel free to speculate on similar lines.

  1. I’m hopeful about your speculation but just don’t see it happening. It’s been over $4/gallon for a little while now, and just keeps going up. Cost me $40 to fill up my little Civic yesterday. It’s pretty ridiculous.

  2. Thanks for joining our speculation Ronnica! I just figured if some guy sitting at Morgan Stanley could impact oil prices for not reason other than he floated a “speculation” out to wall street, then why couldn’t we do the same thing. (Actually, I saw on the news that an investigation is being launched into oil speculators manipulating the high price of oil).

  3. We love Chick-fil-a. Gas is still under $4 barely here where I live in the deep south. I am happy I bought a Corolla two years ago. :)

  4. We’re just below $4. I just have to settle of the fact that I need to trust God! I’m realizing more and more that He is the ONLY stability I can depend on. Crazy times we live in for sure.
    God bless,
    Brenda :)

  7. And what really irks me about it all, in the Middle East they are only paying at most 50-cents a gallon!!

But yes, the market speculators are really manipulating the price of oil, because as the price increases, so do their returns.
