Where I Stand
Posted in Once I Was a Kansas Girl on June 7, 2008Today’s the day when Hillary is supposed to officially concede and get behind Obama. It’s about time.
First off, I want to congratulate Barack Obama for becoming the first African-American to win a major party nomination to be president. Forty years ago, that would have been unheard of. It is sad that it has taken this long, but I’m glad that it has finally happened.
That said, I do not want Obama as president. I don’t think he’s a bad person. The first time I heard him speak, it was his acceptance speech in 2004. I was mesmerized by his ability to speak. At the time, I had no idea what his political beliefs were, but I knew he definitely had enough charisma and personality to fill any office in the U.S. government.
My major problem with Obama is his utter rejection of the rights of babies to live. I’m not only talking about those yet unborn, but those who are in their first few moments of life outside the womb. He refused the Induced Infant Liability Act when he was in the Illinois state legislature, which was written to protect babies that survived late-term abortions. Many pro-choice individuals and groups even support this type of legislation.
While I would be pleased to have an African-American president, I do not want one who ignores the of some within his country.
I have a couple of bloggy friends that have done a great job discussing the topic of abortion and politics. I suggest visiting Sophie’s blog, All about Abortion, and One Mom’s post on Life.
This is a sensitive topic to many, but one that I’m more than willing to discuss. I simply ask that you present your argument/comment in a way that does not attack individuals but shows grace to your opponents.
