I Love Books
Posted in Once I Was a Kansas Girl and tagged with Friends, Gifts, Love, Reading, Roommate on August 21, 2008My roommate just got back from a 10-day trip to the left coast. While she was there she picked me up a few things: 3 classics! This might not be that exciting for you, but she knows I love them and worked with the bookstore employee to pick out a few good ones I didn’t have. She got me:
Voltaire’s Candide (though it wasn’t on my list, I’ve wanted to read this since taking philosophy),
Honore de Balzac’s Old Goriot (which I’ve never heard of, but it came strongly recommended from the bookstore lady, along with The Idiot, and if anyone recommends Dostoevsky, they’re okay in my book!),
and Charlotte Bronte’s Villette (I’ve wanted to get back into reading the Bronte sisters).
Basically, she was showing me love by getting me this awesome present.
I’ve been helping out another friend by finding quotes for her to use in her classroom. I’ve been stuck on finding quotes from books, because I love them so much.
As exhibit C in my love for books, I was walking out of the library yesterday, book in hand, and realized I had no idea when I’d find time to read it. I love books, but sometimes my schedule doesn’t allow for reading as much as I would like.
Anyway, I’ll wrap up this purposeless gushing. If you love books as much as I do, feel free to check out the Book Nook Club. We’re always looking for new reviewers, and our monthly discussions are a lot of fun!

Candide is a hoot. Let me know what you think of it.

Most of the books I read are self help kind!! I need all the help I can get! But I do enjoy Francine Rivers books… my “library” of books has more to do with boys, bugs, critters, and homeschooling… but some day I will get to read books for me!
Hey, I like how you put “the left coast”!! Very funny! We are from there…and can agree that it is very left!
hi-d

I’m a book lover too. I’m actually a member of a book club and we have a lot of fun. I get a lot of inspiration for my blog from books. I really should read some classics some day.

I am addicted to good books. I always have two or three waiting in the wings. Sometimes I end up partway into three books and finially have to decide which one to finish first.
