School Day Memory: Bad Grammar

Being the orderly, organized person that I am, I’ve wanted to have at least one memory from each year of school. This hasn’t been much of a problem, except for 5th grade. I remember 5th grade and I was old enough to remember many things, but none of my memories is particularly blogable: discussions about the bucket brigade (that I didn’t participate in), not having a specific set of friends, enjoying spelling bees, having my mom for a substitute, how much I loved my teacher, Mrs. Donahue.

But something Liz said in a comment the other day reminded me of a memory from 5th grade. A memory that is blogable and that you are bound to enjoy, or at least some of you.

I hated grammar in 5th grade. I loved math, with all the rules. Grammar rules have so many exceptions, they hardly seem like rules at all. I didn’t like my language arts teacher either, so I decided that to punish her, I’d purposely speak bad English. Words like “ain’t” became a chief part of my vocabulary. I’m not sure how that was a punishment to my teacher, but I thought it was.

Happy Saturday, everyone!

That reminds me of 10th grade. We were studying evolution in Biology and I decided that I would punish my teacher by not studying and by coming into class and throw my book under my desk and refuse to open it. Oh the way the adolescent mind works, huh?

I always hated those time math tests….terrible evil things! I’m not a math wizard so taking those tests were a major pain in my backside!

…and I mean that in the best possible way. The stories I could tell about me punishing my teachers are many.
