Well, I voted. I went first thing this morning and had to wait about 40 minutes in this battleground state. This was the 2nd presidential election I’ve voted in; I was 6 weeks shy of 18 in 2000 (hey, I guess that means that my birthday is coming up, yay!).
This was the first election that I carried a cheat sheet in with me so I knew who I wanted to vote for (and who I didn’t want to vote for). I don’t know why that’s never occurred to me before. I completed my ballot as quickly as I could fill in those little bubbles.
There were no surprises this time, either. This was my second time with paper ballots so I was more comfortable with them (in Kansas it was always machines). I was at a different polling place this time which was much bigger, so they had tables you could fill out your ballot on, not just the booths. This means that the pens weren’t tied down which was a huge help to this lefty.
I really didn’t want to vote straight Republican. But when I got all done, every partisan office I had chosen a Republican for on the issues, not the party. There was only one where I was on the fence about, but I realized it would be as stupid to vote for the Democrat just because I could say I didn’t vote all Republican as it would to be to vote for the Republican just because he was a Republican. So I voted for the one that I was slightly more in favor of, who happened to be the Republican. There was one other partisan office where I didn’t vote for anybody as both candidates were running on a pro-big government platform, and I didn’t vote for many of the judges. If they don’t reveal their judicial philosophy, I’m not voting for them!
If you voted today, what was the experience like?
And yes, I ate my donuts this morning.

I’m thankful to live in a country where I can vote. Representative government sure has it’s faults, but I think I prefer it.
I’ve only been able to stand in line to vote once. All other voting has been by absentee ballot. So I feel a bit jipped. I want to be able to take my oldest daughter with me to vote to show her how important it is.
Donuts!! Yay!
Good for you taking advantage of your right to vote!
Tonight promises to be a long night!
Have a great day!
Don’t forget your free coffee and ice cream! :)
I just got done voting myself, and the experience was, as always, a great one. Living in a small town, I didn’t have to wait in line at all!
I’ve never used a voting machine–I can imagine I would prefer paper though! And great idea about the cheat sheet…I will use that in the next election!
WA State is big on the absentee ballots, and I sent mine in last Thursday. I kind of miss going in and actually voting though!
I voted three weeks ago (absentee ballot) because I usually don’t have childcare available and don’t want to have any excuses (or three kids) keeping me from voting.
So no sticker or donuts for me.
Hey, it just dawned on me that I voted in a left-handed booth! And as I was heading toward a booth the guy jokingly said No, go to this booth, it’s a lucky booth. I laughed and said It depends on who you’re voting for! Not that I believe in luck. So, I’m sporting the sticker too!
May righteousness prevail!
God bless,
Brenda
Went right after I got done with work this morning!
I had to wait about a half hour to vote. But traffic was terrific, so I was able to vote, get gas, and drive to work in 1.5 hours. :-)
It took me about 15 minutes of line-standing and then 10 minutes of staring at the paper to finally get my vote in. I also appreciate representative government.
I was absentee too. I’m not sure why everyone doesn’t do absentee??
I’m going to vote when I get off work!!!!! =)
I didn’t think I was going to be able to vote today?!?!? I didn’t know where to go! I found out after lunch time!!! YIPPEE!!!
We are going to be in the history books after all this is done and over!!!!
I voted straight Republican too. Obviously I was doing Republican on purpose for the presidential, but like yours, the others happened on chance.
I voted absentee, I wanted to make sure my vote would go in!
I got the sticker, but no donuts. Sigh. Despite hearing about huge lines, I literally walked into my polling place, got my card, went to the machine, voted and walked out. Easy peasy. I vote my issues, not the party, although the vast majority of the time my issues lead me right. Glad to have this day done, now for an allnighter watching the returns!
Wonderful Post title! :)
It is tough trying to watch the coverage. Just trusting God for the state of our nation. He is good all of the time.
i got the sticker! No donuts though :( but i got a free drink from chic fil a!
we had the machine in south carolina and it was soo easy! I loved it!
I voted – but skipped the doughnut and drink! I’m watching the coverage with my family right now…but getting sad. I will have to agree with Jennifer and say that God is in control of this, and He is good all the time! It will be okay.
