My New Role in Politics

What do I write today? Of course I’ll write about the elections, we’re all thinking about it anyway. But what do I say? I thought I might just write what I wrote in my journal last night, but I don’t feel like today is a day for being divisive. I believe that God has His sovereign hand over the elections, so I fill work with these elected officials, even if they weren’t the ones for whom I voted (and let’s face it, I don’t think I’ve ever voted for such a losing ballot).

I’m more determined than ever to be involved in politics. Sure it’s a mess, but there are things I can do. I can commit to pray for elected officials more than I have. Let’s face it, praying for the president every couple of weeks isn’t praying on “behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

I also can write to my elected officials, encouraging them to do the right thing on important issues. I actually got this idea from a book I was reading yesterday for school, but I’m going to write congratulations letters to each of the major elected officials yesterday (president, senator, governor, and representative). These won’t be you’re-my-elected-official-now-do-what-I-say type of letters, but a genuine congratulations and a commitment to pray for them. Why should I only write to them when I think they’ve messed up?

So no, this isn’t the outcome that I would like, but it’s what our sovereign, holy, and just Lord has ordained. And in Him I hope.

Oh, sorry about forgetting this. Though it is implied in this post, I’m thankful that I have an all-knowing, all-powerful God. When things seem to be falling apart, I know that the Rock is always standing firm.

    Very well put, Ronnica.

Amen! Hopefully things will go well with our new president–I would have been nervous no matter who won last night!

  4. Jennifer P. Says:

I don’t know that I would have been happy with either candidate winning last night, but the world does–indeed–feel a bit like a scarier place this morning.

I will commit to pray more too. If nothing else, this could just be one of His ways to bring about the conditions that need to exist for His coming.

Thanks for the great thoughts Ronnica.

I wrote the same sort of thing on my blog today…I think that the outcome of this election is God’s way of convicting Christians into becoming more involved in putting an end to the evils in our society (abortion, homosexual “marriage”, etc)

This is a wake up call. We haven’t done enough to foster the values of Christ in our nation, and we must do more.

The bummer last night was that there was no chocolate in the house!
Seriously, your last statement hits the nail on the head. God is still God! And upon that Rock I will stand.
    God bless,
    Brenda :)

sometimes i think it doesn’t really matter who is elected – but it matters what we do about it! we have to make sure that we are letting our congressmen and congresswomen know when something is not right. Integrity. Standing up for what we believe in. Sometimes that one voice in the darkness is a ray of hope to many others. It only takes one to lead…and many others to follow, right? I can tell that you are one of those that lead…

I feel like God is giving the people what they want… like the Jews who wanted a king in the Old Testament.

the world seems scary and uncertain today. Im sad, but trying to remind myself that God is in charge… no matter who gets elected.

I’ve read a few political blog entries today and yours, Ronnica, is the first (and probably only), I can honestly comment on.

Very well done! I really like the idea of the letters – congratulatory – not condescending or ‘you mess up, fix it’ type of letters.

I never thought of this being a wake up call for us…but maybe it is. Maybe we need to stop being pew-warmers and become red hot and do it with honest, integrity, and honor.

Thank you, Ronnica, for giving me something to think about.

Great post! I will pray for our country & our leaders!

You’re such an inspiration. I wouldn’t even think of writing congrats letters, and if I did think of it, I probably wouldn’t actually do it. Thanks for your positive vibe!

  15. Vicki Says:

This is such a good thing to do. Not only to let them know you’re praying, but also just to do the act of praying for them. I am so disappointed too, but, like you, I am relying on God who is always in control.

  16. jennifer Says:

Well put. I think that we are called to pray for our new leader.

Your hopefulness and strong desire to continue take part in the process are inspirational!

Ronnica: I know what you mean. I’ve had a pit in my stomach since Tuesday. I know God is in control. God is revealing some things to me thru this election. Quite frankly, I think He is writing on the wall and we better heed the warning and Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Remember it all goes back to Jerusalem in God’s Book.
