Senioritis It Is

Thanks for all your comments yesterday. I’m feeling better, but certainly not 100%. My nose is still running away from me, but I suppose I’ll live.

In strangely related news, I also did something to my pinky toe on Wednesday. I thought maybe I broke it, but according to the doctors on the web (yes, I did that, K-Lai), the symptoms don’t match up. What I know is that I stubbed it, and instead of the pain going away, it was uncomfortable the rest of the day (wearing high heels). It’s not bruised or particularly swollen, but when I compare it to my other pinky toe, you can feel a huge (for pinky-toe standards) knot (feels like a joint) where there isn’t one on the uninjured foot. There’s only mild discomfort though, so I’m not worried about it.

After spending way too much time talking about my toe, I’ll get you back to regularly scheduled programming. What follows is the post that I had meant to post yesterday. I have updated it to make sense today.

At this point, I’m not even sure I’m going to miss it. I’m talking about school. Sure, I’ve been waxing nostalgic about it all semester long, but this is by far my least favorite part of the semester – the time between midterms and finals that is fraught with papers and tests. Blech. I always have the best intentions of keeping to a tight schedule so I don’t wait until the last weeks to do the work, but it doesn’t happen.

This time around is the worse: I didn’t start the research for my paper (due this morning) until Monday night at 8:30. An ideal schedule for me would be to do research for 4 weeks, write for 2 weeks, and spend a couple of days editing.

This time around I’ve decided to research in 1 night and write it in 2. It helps that it only has to be 5 pages, but still. I’ve never written a research paper in such a condensed fashion. My writing skills have improved with practice, but this still may very well be the worst research paper I’ve written (and I’ve written a ton of them). But, it’s the last. And that’s something to be thankful for!

Okay, it’s not as bad as it sounds. I’m sure I’ll be melancholy about it come the last few days before graduation. But for right now, I’m squealing inside at the fact that I have to attend only 4 more classes and in 35 days I’ll be done with school, potentially forever.

—————————————————————————-

In all seriousness, I’m thankful to be a student. I know a very small fraction of people in the world get the opportunity of a college education, and I have not only a bachelor’s but will soon have a master’s. Education isn’t everything, but it is something that is important to me and something that I truly enjoy.

  1. Hey–as long as the paper gets you a passing grade that’s all that matters! haha I hope everything goes well and that you finish up great! And hope your toe feels better! Ouch!

  2. Wow, you’re almost done!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps you should get your toe amputated. Then you wouldn’t stub it anymore. Though it would leave a ‘stub’ (har har).

  3. Sorry to hear about your toe. I broke my pinky toe. It hurt. A lot. I couldn’t walk on it. If you can walk on it, then chances are you’re right..it’s stubbed.

I’m glad to hear you’re almost done with school. When I usually come to the end of a goal, I’m very excited the moments before it’s completed…but after it’s completed, it’s a complete letdown.

I guess I’m just weird like that.

  4. Woohoo! Just a five-pager! I remember being relieved when they were “small” like that. But they’re still stressful. Hope you’re feeling better!
