Can Today Just Be Normal?

If every day is special, I suppose no day is, right? My birthday was by no means bad (really), but it didn’t have the usual “special” feel, either because now I’m an adult or because the last few days have been all about me, too.
This was my first birthday that I did not stay up to see it come. My 11:15 bedtime Sunday night was just fine…I was tired after having to get up way early Sunday morning to take my parents the airport.
After waking up yesterday and reading my birthday cards, I went off to a normal day of work. I always try to wait to open my cards until the big day to make it feel more special. One of the cards almost made me cry, too.
After work, I went home to three crazy friends. We ordered Chinese and played the 1996 version of Compatibility, roommates vs. roommates (we lost and now have to cook them dinner). Then it was time for cake…ice cream cake! I always wanted to have ice cream cake on my birthday, but my mom told me no one would want it in the winter so I never had it. My brother, whose birthday is in July, often had ice cream cake for his birthday. That was definitely a special treat!
Speaking of deprived in childhood (okay, I was never really deprived), we then went to the movie store to rent a movie. Nothing really stood out (except HSM 2…but my friends had not seen the first one yet, so I just rented it to see later in the week), but then I saw Clueless. Perfect. I’m not sure how this happened, but I never saw Clueless. Until now.
After the movie, I of course crashed as it was past midnight and I’m old. Thus, the end of my birthday.

Happy Birthday! Birthdays when you’re older are kind of like that – they are fun, but not like when you were a kid.

Yeah, my birthdays are never fun or special anymore. I usually end up making my own cake and dinner.
But no ice cream cake in winter? Who says? We just got done eating one and it was yummy!

What’s this stuff about being old?!? I’m 10 years your senior, and I feel YOUNG. I’m glad you finally got an ice cream cake for your birthday.

I would love magenta hair, and Pottery Barn is my favorite! :) We’d shop there together! Maybe just mostly people watch, and fall in love with the decorating ideas.

I LOVE ice cream cake. It’s all the good things, mixed up together. Yum! Glad you had a good birthday. And hello, midnight? Sister, I haven’t been to bed past 10 in like two years.

I’m glad that your birthday was wonderful. Sounds like it was pretty eventful…even if it didn’t seem as special as when you were a kid. And I don’t understand this no ice cream cake in the winter. It’s always a good time for ice cream! :)

I’m glad you finally got your ice cream cake! Clearly not everyone agrees with your mom, or all the ice cream parlors would go out of business in the winter-time. Just turn up the heat and have your ice cream cake! :)

I’m glad you got your Ice Cream Cake!!! Sounds like you had a good day…good choice on the movies…Clueless is timeless and HSM2 is good…gets you ready for the release of HSM3.

For what it’s worth, Riley did not get an ice cream cake this year. Instead I made him cheesecake, haha.

Glad you’re taking full advantage of being an adult! Next thing, you’ll be eating your ice cream cake BEFORE your low-sodium steamed vegetables.
And sure, send me a pic of your fridge–I only got one other but plan on posting it later this week. :)

Happy Birthday…a little late. Sorry! I’ve been out of bloggy land for a couple of days. I love ice cream cakes. I’m so glad you finally had one. And Clueless–what a fun movie! It sounds like you had a really good time. And Chinese take out sounds really good to me right now…
