Fruit Cocktail

I only ate parts of fruit cocktail growing up.  I have issues with cherries (my roommate thinks my pickiness with food is primarily in my head. I don’t know how true that is, but I’ll readily admit my issue with cherries is definitely in my head.  I will not let a fruit have the best of me.  I’ll have to tell that story another day.) and I never liked the grapes without their skin.  Regardless, this  post will be like fruit cocktail: really fruity and you never know what you’re going to get.

After Monday, I’m exhausted.  I don’t write about work much, but January and February are our busiest months as that’s when people realize they are in money trouble and when we start doing free tax prep.  When I first started working there over 3 years ago, I had very little actual work to do.  That is no longer the case, which is definitely a good thing, but it’ll take some getting used to.

I’ve started contributing to a blog about, well, improving my life.  It’s called My Life Improvement.  Specifically, it’s dealing with improving my physical health…this is definitely something that I need help with!  Feel free to check it out.  I need all the accountability I can get…

A real life friend of mine started blogging again.  I’m excited, because I like her writing and I think she has a lot to offer.  She’s totally worth checking out!

Speaking of commercials, I saw a real dumb one (pun intended…you’ll see in a sec) for Domino’s something or other.  It was comparing a smart man’s IQ against the average 5th grader.  Umm, IQ isn’t supposed to change with age (a smart man could have the same exact IQ as an equally smart kid, even though his knowledge would understandably be less), but I guess they were thinking that their audience wouldn’t know that….

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to enter my giveaway for a $50 Target gift card!

Enough fruit cocktail.  Have a wonderful day!

First of all, I have GOT to get your link changed on my blogroll. I keep forgetting to do that.

Fruit Cocktai? Loved it as a kid and just can’t stomache it now – ????? I don’t like cherries either so maybe that is it.

Good luck with the healthy living. I plan to rededicate to that goal soon. But right now I have chocolate and sprinkle covered marshmallows that have to be eaten first :)

No cherries? To ban you or not to ban you, that is the question!

You would cringe if you saw how many (probably fake) cherries I put on my sundaes!

There has been quite a few posts this year already about healthy living. I think we all need accountability partners. On Heather’s blog (Heather’s Recipes) I commented that self humilitation would soon be next. I figure if I need to post a pic of the scale’s reading maybe I will be more accountable. lol

I wish you the cherry best! Oops, I mean VERY best! :o) A healthy lifestyle is hard to keep grounded on. But you can do it!!!!!! It’s no longer a choice or option, it’s now mandatory!

I’m still trying to get used to the comment button being at the TOP of the post!

And what’re you talking about??!?!?! Cherries are the best part! ha ha

Yeah..I think they target advertisements to about a 6th grade level. Seriously, I’ve heard that they really do. What does that say about our society? gahHHH!

Cherries are on my Top 5 Fruit List. Can’t imagine not liking them, but we all have our own tastes. I, for one, will probably never eat another banana for the rest of my life. My banana liking stopped at 18 – long story – involved some too-sweet punch.

I’m with you on the cherries. Growing up, my mother used to serve a lot of fruit cocktail. I managed to get by with the grapes … mostly because they’d become so pear-like that it was easy to forget that they had even been grapes. But cherries? I’ve got no use for the things, even now.

I make my own now, with a lot less syrup and never, ever, ever any cherries. My own little victory in life.

Except for the texture, I can never taste any difference between the fruits in fruit cocktail. They’re just one big blur.

Cherries are the best part of fruit cocktail!

I am not a fan of fruit cocktail either. Actually not a fan of canned fruit, except pineapples, which I mix with cottage cheese.

get ready to gag: growing up, my mom used to take canned pears, smear mayo on them, and top with cheddar cheese.

I cannot stand pears. Pears fresh, frozen, cooked or canned. Cannot tolerate the rough texture. I wonder if I can analyze this to mean that I cannot handle the rough parts of my life?
I have to get into the healthy living mode again. I put on a pair of jeans today and could NOT button them. I hate being fat….have to change that.

Emma LOVES the cherries that come with fruit cocktail and on top of ice cream sundaes. I can’t stand them.

I would only eat part of fruit cocktail, too, when my mom would serve it to us as kids. I’d eat my sister’s peaches and I’d give her my pears. The grapes would make me gag.

As a kid, I liked fruit, any kind, any where, & fruit coctail was always fun, & I loved merichino cherries . . . then in college, a friend worked in a merichino cherry ‘facility,’ & saw them bleach, etc etc the cherries (which had to be p-e-r-f-e-c-t to begin with) & finally add that bright red colour – haven’t eaten them since! (Ooo & before that – my college roomie & I love love loved chocolate covered “cherries”) . . .

My neighbor had a cherry tree, & I still love ‘real’ cherries, & practically cheer when he brings over a bucket :)

    Here’s to healthy choices in ’09 :)
