It’s Like It’s All about Me
Posted in Mixed Bag and tagged with Comments, Self-centered, Work on March 5, 2009When I go to leave a comment on a blog (maybe yours!), I find that most of the time the comment is about ME. Why can’t I just comment about what they said? Is it really all about me? I apologize for all the self-centered comments I’ve left. I feel like the person (okay, me) that can’t wait for the other person to stop talking so that she can share her story about such and such.
Sorry for this postette. I’m in the middle of a, surprise surprise, busy tax-filed week!

I haven’t noticed that about you lately, but then again….when is the last time you commented on my blog? ;-)

L! O! L!
I just left a comment where I went back and commented again saying “By the way…” so that I could comment on what THEY said after I just left a me me me comment! HA HA HA!!
I think it is OK to do that some. Agreeing with people and identifying with what they say is a way of positive commenting. Just look at my above paragraph :)

Heh, I do the same thing all the time.
See? Just did it again – took your post and commented ALL ABOUT ME. :)
I agree with Jennifer above though, that agreeing with people and identifying with what they have posted is a way of positive commenting. Totally. Heck, they’re teaching Kiddo how to do that in kindergarten right now: they read a story, then do a “connection to text” where they write something about either a connection between the text and themselves, the text and another text, or the text and the world. Most kids pick text-themselves. Totally legit. :D
Hmmm, I’m not sure this is a long enough comment to be from me, but you’re busy so I’ll stop rambling on now! ;)

I don’t see it as “all about me”. I think there are some times when you have a similar experience and if it is in context with the post it’s okay to bring yourself or your experience into the comment. I know I do it alot. I usually read blogs that I feel a personal connection with the blogger on some level. If I feel pressured not to share that connetion then why blog.
just my .02 (all about me) comment.

I like it when people share similar feelings and experiences in comments on my blog. I see blogging as a way to interact with people. Whatever way that occurs, I’m happy.

First, I don’t think you do that! Second, to the extent that you do, it’s just good conversation: reflecting back at a person your own experiences/opinions on the matter. *I* think it’s a perfectly good way to comment, unless people just randomly leave comments like “come to my blog, it’s so super cool (unstated meaning: way cooler than yours)”. That’s about the only annoying type of me-focused comment! Any others are a-okay in my book (or blog, as the case may be ;)

I don’t think you do that at all!!
But I have to tell you this really hit home…I feel like I do the same thing!! (see?? I’m doing it right now!! argh!!!)

You should comment more about me, naturally. :)

I agree with the positive commenting thing stated above…I love comments of any shape, size and form. Except bad ones, but I haven’t had any of those! Lucky me!!

I do it too. See? It’s a way of relating… and often times, I am looking for other people’s experience to validate my thoughts and concerns. That’s what makes our blog world a nice little/HUGE community.
BTW- I TAGGED you!

I have only thought your comments have been kind and supportive. Of course, NOW, I’ll have a closer watch on them. :) kidding!

I’m not only comfortable with commenting about myself all over the Internet–I think all the blogs out there should be about me too!

Scoot over…there should be room on the shrink couch for all of us – I comment about myself, too (see!?)

I can relate…SEE!

Comments I post on others’ blogs are usually about me as well. But I think it’s good when one posts a comment about themselves. It means that whatever I wrote affected them in some way or made an impact on their lives and that makes me happy ;-)

I read somewhere that girls commisserate/talk to people by supplementing the conversation with their own experiences. Guys just listen, but girls throw in their own stories as a way of listening/empathizing. It’s amazing how true it really is.

You’re right. But not necessarily about you, about some others who read your blog…ahem. I’ve been thinking this recently about the comments I leave. But don’t be too apologetic, commenting is about dialogue.
