Each season I challenge myself to read, and to read wide. Now that winter is gone (and good riddance!), it’s time to check to see how well I did.
I knew going into this that I might be off, as this was my first time not being a student and didn’t know what to expect. I ended up reading 22 books (all the books here except Purple Hibiscus and add in Waiting by Ha Jin).
Of the specific books mentioned in my winter post, I did not read:
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens (tried, but had to put it down)
Woman in White by Wilkie Collins (I’m in this now)
Old Goriot by Honore de Balzac (haven’t gotten to it yet)
My Heart is in His Hands (Ann Judson) by Sharon James (haven’t been able to get my, uhh, hands on it yet)
Worlds at War by Anthony Pagden (I checked it out from the library, but I’m waiting to finish The Audacity of Hope, which wasn’t on my list, first)
Overall, I feel pretty good with how I did, though I think I could have stood to read more classics, as I didn’t complete even one (though I can blame that on Atlas Shrugged, which is a classic in it’s own right, it’s just I count it as “recent” since it was published since 1950). So many books, so little time!
What about spring? Check out my reading list on the Book Nook.
Fun list! Don’t you hate when you get “trapped” in a book, though? It just happened to me with One Hundred Years of Solitude. I didn’t dislike it, it just took FOREVER to read!
On your current list, I’m especially enjoyed Empire Falls and Eats, Shoots and Leaves (really, really loved that one!). And of course I’m always happy to see an Orson Scott Card book on the list :) Happy Reading!
Oh, I really want to know your thoughts on Woman in White. I have it sitting on my shelf, untouched, because I don’t really like scary book and it had that look about it. =) So do share when you are done!
Meanwhile, I have a book review up today that reminds me of you. =)
Hey, what happened with “David Copperfield”? I love Dickens.
Then again, you got through “Atlas Shrugged,” so I’m certainly not casting stones.
Im with Wickle – I really love Dickens, too.. and I liked “David Copperfield,” but it’s been ages since I read it.
I have been thinking that I need to do some actual reading lately. Blogs do not exactly count. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I am nearly done with Great Expectations and I noticed that The Great Gatsby was one you recommend. I am starting that one next! :0) I know how you feel about the comments deal. Even though I just love to play with my blog to get some creativity time, it is always fun to find that someone has left me a little message! I love your blog and I am glad I found you!
