Reaching for the Goal(s)
Posted in The Life of the Historian and tagged with Bible, Exercise, Goals, Letters, Lists, Reading, Writing on April 3, 2009I about forgot to do my quarterly update on this year’s goals, but then I read Debra‘s post to the same affect. So how have I done?
Goal #1: Read 60 books.
A quarter of this goal would be 15, and as of midnight of March 31st I had finished 22. As of 12:15 AM on April 1st, I had finished 23, as I stayed up late to finish reading Life of Pi. I did really great at this goal in January and February, but I slowed down in March primarily because of basketball. (Check out the Books Read in 2009 page for updates.)
2. Complete my novel.
I did great in January, writing 3 chapters, but then taxes hit big time and I found I couldn’t devote the mental energy to it in the evenings like I had previously. Now that things are lightening up, I hope to rectify this. I might not get done this year (just depends on how ambitious I get), but I really want to. (Check out the Historian’s Writing page for updates on this.)
3. Exercise 3 times a week.
I’ve been so-so on this goal. It seems like it’s more like 2 times a week, and then the last couple of weeks 1 time a week. I’m really going to push myself to go to the pool 2 or 3 times a week, and probably start taking walks in the evenings many other days.
4. Write a letter once a week.
There’s probably a week or two where I didn’t, but this goal definitely has been kept.
5. Memorize 4 chapters of the Bible.
I’ve struggled with how/when to implement this. Really, I just need to get down to it and start. I’ve decided that I want to memorize Romans (but obviously not all this year).
So, I’ve definitely had progress, but there’s more work to be done.

Once again, you make me want to read faster. You read a crazy lot of books, girl. I’m reading Future Grace right now, too, but at only 1 chapter a day and missing a day here or there, it’s going to take me more than a month to finish it.

I should probably do something like this to keep me motivated.
*I* think you’ve made wonderful progress – even in the places you feel a little rocky! Keeping pressing on!

After not being to the library since LAST August (!!), the kids and I finally made it. I borrowed two Terri Blackstock books. I do enjoy her books. They are definitely not anything as heavy as you read – but they are inspirational.

Visiting from SITS! I LOVE your blog! Not even sure where to begin. I’m an avid reader as well and I think I’ll start with all your “stuff” about books. So glad I found you.

Ronnica, thanks so much for all your kind comments on my blog! I appreciate you praying for me and my family. It means a lot. Thanks.
I have thought about you a lot since the beginning of the year. I am going to document all the books I have read this year… and see how many I have read. So far I have read 7 or 8, I need to go check again, because of the whole hospital thing I am forgetting everything. UGH. But I have read really big ones…ones that are around 400-800 pages…I know that 6 of them were like that. But they were EASY reads so that makes it better!
Thanks again, julie

thanks for stopping by my blog. Yours is so terrific. I LOVE to read but my eyes literally close after five pages. It’s killing me b/c there is nothing better than a good book.

I’m still impressed! My goals are more like: change underwear daily; stay up past 9 once a week; remember at least one person’s birthday. I’d say I’m a quarter there on each of my goals, too! (Well, if I count turning the underweawr inside-out…)

I’m so impressed. Isn’t it amazing how much you’ve done once you actually take a step back and look at it all? Nice job.
