Travel News (or News Travels)

I’m going to Turkey.

(Insert Turkey jokes here, that many are so apt to tell.)

I’m not going for life or any other extended amount of time, only for a week or so in November.  I’ve known about this now for a while, but actually managed to keep it a secret from you all, partly because I forgot I hadn’t written this post, and in part because I wanted to tell family first (how bad would it be if they found out on my blog?).

I’ve only been to a few foreign countries (Mexico and Spain are the other two), but I’ve already been to Turkey twice – six weeks the first time, and one the second (A brief overview of my second trip to Turkey can be found here).  There’s so much about Turkey that I enjoy: the people, the food, the culture, the history, and the language that I know so little of.  This time around I’m especially excited for this opportunity as I’ll get to love on some families sent out from my church who are dear to me.

I’m sure to talk about this more as the days go by, but if you have any questions, I’d love to answer them!

  1. Wow, that is so cool! I love to travel but honestly never thought to go to Turkey, lol. Thanks for visiting my blog and I love your quote! Austen is my favorite! Have a great day!

  2. How cool! Details please!

    OK, a joke:

This lady had a parrot and he was RUDE. He would curse and say hateful things. The lady tried her best to train him to be good but he just wouldn’t do it. One day in a fit of desperation, the lady grabbed the parrot and threw him inside the freezer. He squawked and cursed inside of the freezer and suddenly grew quiet. She sat for a moment, wondering if it had died. She opened the freezer door. The parrot came out and climbed sedately up her arm to perch on her shoulder. He calmly told her he was sorry for his past indescretions and told the lady that he would refrain from any such behavior again. He gently begged her forgiveness. After she said she forgave him he asked her “So. What did the turkey do?”

    :)

  3. I wanted to go SOOOOOOO bad! But Sam wasn’t keen on the idea so we didn’t go to the meeting. Maybe next year. Are you raising the money or paying out of pocket? I was thinking our church should do a missions fundraiser for the families going this year. :-) So glad you have the opportunity!

  4. So, my mom went to Turkey about 18 months ago for a job, and met and married a Turkish rug salesman. No joke! We sort of think it’s a marriage of convenience. He’s a nice guy, but odd. I’ve never been to Turkey, but now I have a Turkish step-father!

  5. Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I hope you have a safe & wonderful trip! I guess theone thing I’d check out in Turkey is Turkish Delight. Enjoy!

  6. Okay, okay, you all are twisting my arm. I pull out my trusty journal and remember up some stories from my first trips to Turkey.

Pam: It is rather exotic, I suppose. I love it!

Erin: I so wish I could!

Kristina: I’m not surprised. The rug salesmen can be really smooth, and speak English better than most Turks.

  7. Ooh!!! Congrats!! Can’t wait to see pics and hear stories :) I loved living in Europe and getting to travel, but we didn’t make it that far east. I think Poland or Czech is as far east as I got.
