Update and News

Time for another quarterly update on my goals!

Goal #1: Read 60 books.

Though I’ve been slacking in the last week or so, I have read 46 books in the first half of the year.  If I don’t make 60, it’s because I’ve suffered some sort of personal/physical crisis that left me incapable of reading.  (Check out the Books Read in 2009 page for updates.)

2.  Complete my novel.

Do ta do ta do…

Yeah, not getting a lot of progress on this done.  Right now, I need to focus my writing time on writing the SS lessons that I need to have done by August.  I really just need to make it a daily habit of doing a little writing at least (besides this here blog).

3.  Exercise 3 times a week.

Getting better about taking walks in the evening, with or without my roommate.  I usually go to do water aerobics once a week, too.  I need to restart my lap swimming, though.

4.  Write a letter once a week.

Yep, still going on this one.

5.  Memorize 4 chapters of the Bible.

Still haven’t started, though the desire is there.  Doesn’t count though, does it?  Hopefully I start this soon!

And now, for the “news” section of this post…I’m no longer an hourly employee.  As of yesterday, I’m a full-time salary employee!  Not only do I get better compensation, I get paid timeoff and holidays, just in time for July 4th!

Well done you – you’re nearing your goals all the time!

I haven’t exercised in a month, ever since I started my new schedule, which is killing me! I feel so lazy!

  3. Pam Says:

You’re doing a great job on reaching your goals. Good for you.

  4. Liz Says:

That’s great news about your job!

I see that your reading list included a book by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I’m reading “The Cost of Discipleship” right now, and I love it. My friend told me it’s a classic that every Christian has to read, and I heartily agree. So convicting, and I think I need to buy a copy of my own, since I’m borrowing hers.

  5. Stephanie Says:

seriously, it is awesome the goals that you are able to accomplish! And how many books you can get through!!! :) Good job!

  6. Katie Says:

Wow, 46 books already. That’s amazing. I thought I read a lot, but this totally makes me feel like a slacker.

  7. Darcel Says:

Cool blog! Thanks for stopping by mine today. I love to read. Maybe I’ll set a goal to read so many by the end of the year.

  8. Elizabeth Says:

Don’t get too excited about salary! It CAN be overrated. they can pretty much work you to death and you may actually be getting paid less than what you would have been making hourly. Stand your ground :-)

  9. Carrie Says:

Congrats on the job “upgrade”!!! THat’s awesome and a blessing indeed!

  10. Iva @ Horizontal Yo-Yo Says:

Congratulations on going full time! Salary stinks if you have to work longer than your ’shift’ but the Man Beast tells me that everyone does more work than they are ’supposed’ to do in order to make their job easier. Getting paid for time off…woo hoo…that is fabulous!

  11. GZoe Says:

I’m glad you received your raise…watch though. I was boss and on a salary once and the maintenance man (hourly) would many times make more than I did.
I will be expecting one of those letters. It is so good to set goals…better when they are achieved. Keep up the good work. I am looking forward to your novel.

I think 46 out of 60 books is a really good attempt on the books. It’s hard to predict how much you’ll be able to read. I know I wouldn’t be able to read that much.

  13. Cara Says:

It sounds like you’re doing pretty well with your goals! Congrats on the full-time job!!

  14. Katy Says:

Aw, these are such great goals!! In fact, I think I’d like to adopt them all myself. :)
And yay for being a full-time employee! You are now officially my role model. :)

  15. Caity Says:

Awesome! I really love these goals! Good luck with all of them! Keep up the great work!! Congrats on your job, too!

  16. debbie Says:

Congrats on becoming salaried. And with all of your other goals as well.

  17. Ronnica Says:

Yes, I get that salary can be a pain if you’re overworked. Fortunately, I’ve worked at this company for 4 years, right alongside the head honcho, so I know what to expect. The work load is the same, I’ll just be better compensated for it.
