I Give Up

Fall LeavesIt’s fall.  As in, it’s no longer summer.

Wednesday I went to work in my usual flip flops and short sleeves and froze all day, even though I had my sweater on.

When it was time to go home, I was looking forward to walking out into the warm day, but instead, I encountered cold rain as I left my building.

That’s when I gave up.  I went home, put on socks and my mom-made warm flannel pj pants, and nestled in to a good book (okay, “good” is relative…it was Twilight).

And I’ve not worn my flip flops since.

Does any one else live in denial that it’s no longer summer?

I am sorry it has taken me a couple of days to get back with you after our conversation. I’ve been distracted this week (not unusual unfortunately). I am going to tinker around with what we were talking about.

    Tinker words: BREAKFAST CEREAL

  2. Jennifer Says:

Oh shoot! That is so cool! It totally worked!!

OK, now for a comment on your post.

It is still warm here but I’ve heard this weekend it is supposed to go into the 50s. I will wear my flip flops as long as I can!

  3. GZoe Says:

I started wearing my long sleeved sweaters several weeks ago, so I am way ahead of you. Your mother would say…that sounds like grandma.
    I love the trees…color is beautiful…
This weekend is postcard club show…YEAH

It went from 80′s to just above freezing here overnight. I am in denial. I want FALL…not winter. It is crazy!!!! I am in denial too. Enjoy Twilight :)

  5. Liz Says:

It’s been cold, windy, rainy and overcast here since September 28th. As much as I want to deny summer is gone, it’s really hard to when you’ve got to put a sweater on and buy new gloves or your hands will freeze when you go to pump gas. I miss it!

  6. Wickle Says:

I have exactly the opposite reaction. As an autumn-lover, I’m all for the changing of the seasons. Sorry …

  7. Lady Fi Says:

It’s too cold to live in denial here in Sweden. With minus 3 or 4 C in the mornings.. oh, hard frosts and snow… flip flops just don’t work for me! ;-)

  8. Katy Says:

YES!!! I’m the exact same way. I continue to wear flip flops and short sleeves and hope somehow my denial will change the seasons by sheer force of will.
    So far it hasn’t worked.
I’m glad someone else understands my feelings. :)

Heck yeah, I’m in denial!! Well not so much after the cold, windy, rainy days we have been having. I sit with socks, fleece pants and a sweatshirt as I type this.

You have to drag me into the cold weather kicking and screaming.

I miss my flip flops and shorts!!!!!!!

I’m reading Twilight too, for the 3rd time. Trying to get through it and New Moon before the movie comes out. But as I keep it in the car and only read for the 3 minutes I wait in car line, I’m not getting that far!

We are having the same type of cold rainy weather here in the Northeast, too.
And, like you, I was denial until today when it was 38 degrees at 9:30 am when I left the house. I’m even more in denial because we never really had a very good summer this year and now we’re not really having a fall. I’m going to have to find all my warm clothes this weekend and pack away the flip flops and short sleeve shirts. :(

Julie: I can’t say that I enjoyed Twilight, but I didn’t hate it either. I’ve read a ton this week…I already finished it, read another, and now I’m halfway through a third!

Liz: Pumping gas! I have to do that today, and I didn’t bring a jacket. Hmmm…this would be a time I’d REALLY like a husband.

Wickle: I like other things about other times of year, but weatherwise, summer is my only love. Give me warmth!

Lady Fi: Definitely not that cold here. I don’t think I could stand that kind of weather (and colder) for half the year!

Katy: It’s great to not be alone.

Veronica: Well, I won’t be finishing the series. I just had to read the first book because I was tired of being told I need to read it. I gave it a fair shot, truly.

Pam: The only good thing about the weather change is that I never actually traded out my winter clothes this past spring. I have a large closet (actually, 2 walk-in closets just for me…yes, I know I’m lucky) so I just moved my summer clothes to the top bar last year, so I never needed to officially trade out clothes. Works out now!

Flip-flops, who gets to wear those in the summer?! Sigh. Maybe part of next summer?! One of the many things I miss about NC that the UK just doesn’t have to offer. Sorry it is finally time for you also to clothe your feet and no longer bare your arms. It is painful. I agree.

  13. Elizabeth Says:

um, you do have a channel that shows the weather right? I have embraced this weather, the smells, the colors, the change, and am now happy that it is fall. Plus we’ve got a lot planned for the fall months, so that helps :-) And actually, I’m still wearing flip flops!

  14. Ronnica Says:

Elizabeth: Well, sure, but what’s the fun in that? I actually get the weather forecast texted to me each evening and morning, but I don’t usually look at it, and it rarely helps me decide what I’m going to wear. Besides, I wear flip flops year round…but my current office is too cold for them, apparently. =(

  15. Cara Says:

I love fall. Love it! While I like being able to just slip on flip flops or sandals in the summer, I adore sweaters and corduroys and sitting by fires. Mmm.

  16. Classroom Confessions Says:

I’m in Miami and it is 85 degrees and super freaking humid here! I want to wear my scarves and suede boots so badly… let’s switch climates!

  17. Ari Says:

No because I live in Texas. On Tuesday and Wednesday the highs are supposed to be in the low 80s. That’s not Fall. Siiiiigh.

I’m ready for the fall though. Really ready. Send it this way please?

  18. MinD Says:

As autumn is my favorite season, I welcome it happily. I’m already rocking sweatpants whenever I can – although I miss flipflops.

  19. Brittanie Says:

I used to love Fall but now Summer is my absolute favorite. I hate winter even though I live here in the Deep South. :)
