26 Things at 26

I enjoyed it so much last year, I decided that I’d do it again this year.  Today is my last day of being 26 (I can still remember when I looked up to people who were 26 as mature and having it all together, LOL) as tomorrow is my birthday.

These are 26 things I’ve done in my 26th year (okay, actually it’s my 27th, but that’s an awkward way of putting it):

1. Was disappointed (again and again) by the Oklahoma Sooners.  Oh well, there’s always next year, right?

2. Gained a sister (though it’s not official until next month, it’s long been settled in my mind!).

3. Started writing a novel, that is now abandoned, at least for now. Maybe I’ll complete it (or a different one) when I’m 27?

4. Was asked to be a maid-of-honor.  And then a bridesmaid.

5. Became the site coordinator of our tax program.

6. Celebrated another blessed year, remembering again the sacrifice and blessing of the Cross.

7. Finally owned up to being a North Carolinian.

8. Planted my first flowers (the frost just this weekend got to them).

9. Survived another year without a boyfriend, and even enjoyed it for a few months.

10. Registered unaffiliated…no more “R” by my name (except the ones IN it, of course).

11. Learned I like teaching adults too, not just children.

12. Developed closer relationships with those in my ABF class.

13. Joined Twitter, and eventually learned to like it.

14. Earned a salary for the first time in my life.

15. Developed my own version of a bucket list (one of which I hope to check off this week!).

16. Received a memorable package from home.

17. Decided to work towards being a teacher professionally, even though the timing isn’t right yet.

18. Kicked my afternoon Diet Dr Pepper habit…one that I thought would always stick with me!

19. Participated in my first (and second) Read-a-thon and loved it.

20. Found the first show since Gilmore Girls that I can watch over and over again (Glee).

21. Moved my office again, this time so I have my own office space.

22. Bought socks for the first time.  I suppose mommy-bought socks weren’t going to last forever!

23. Started down the slippery slope to granola-ville by starting to drink organic milk.

24. Traveled to Turkey for the 3rd time, renewing my love of the people and culture.

25. Opened up myself up to a guy (being an oyster instead of a clam) and was shut down.  Lived through it.

26. Had the most emotional week of my life (thus far, obviously).

Overall, I’d say this was quite the growing year and more full of blessings than I could ever have dreamed!

Love this! I would attempt it myself but I don’t know that I can come up with 37 things about being 37, besides which I’m not 37 anymore, hee! Maybe I should start keeping track today so I can do 38 about being 38 next December….

    Happy early birthday my dear!

Should I try for 76? Good for you.

The one that surprised me the most was #22. I can’t believe you just bought your first pair of socks this year!

This was a great post- I really enjoyed it!

Time is always full of growing & experiences! So amazed you kicked your Diet Dr. Pepper habit… that gives me hope for my Diet Coke habit!!! And YIPEE for GLEE! I save them on my DVR & watch them over & over myself!

  5. Ronnica Says:

Heather: And happy birthday to you!

G.Zoe: I’d love to see that!

Tara: I know, right? My mom loves to buy me fun socks for Christmas, so those with all the ones I have still from college have gotten me by (especially since I don’t wear socks that often). Needed some more dress socks for Turkey though, so I had to buy them!

Rebecca Jo: Well, I still drink the good stuff in the morning. I could kick it if I want to as I don’t “need” it, I just don’t want to.

I think the reason it is GOOD to be shut down by a guy is so that we can help our daughters or nieces or any other girl cope with it when it happens to them. Because it DOES happen and it hurts.

I got an ‘out of the blue’ friend request from a boy that I went to school with and I was a bit surprised. Oldest Daughter said “Is that THE guy? The one that hurt your feelings so badly?”

It wasn’t, but she was obviously listening when I told that story.

I enjoyed reading this–I’m excited to gain a sister too.

#22 made me laugh. I can’t remember the last time I got socks from anyone, even when my mother was alive, yet your brother is the exact same way as you. The fact that you managed to stave off the necessary sock trip until this year is comendable!

You had a quite an adventure being 26. Seems like you had ups and downs and you have come through quite beautifully. BTW, Glee so rocks. I asked Santa for BOTH soundtrack CD’s. I hope he brings them. :)

  9. Classroom Confessions Says:

What a great list! I hope to accomplish some of those things this year- especially the being single one. That is the hard one I’m working on now. Kudos to you for an awesome list!

  10. Ronnica Says:

Amanda: I think we always get socks for Christmas, but I’m not sure. Mom knows I like weird socks, so she enjoys buying them for Christmas and other holidays. It probably helps that I only wear socks 1/3 of the year, probably.

  11. Ronnica Says:

CC: It’s not easy, but it’s possible. I never dreamed I could be happily single, but I was. Though I’m not at the moment, I know it’s possible!

  12. Ari Says:

Ooooh that’s neat. Lol I’m gonna steal your idea and do 10 things I did in 2010 this time next year. :0

    Happy Birthday!! :)
I’m totally stealing this idea, as my birthday is coming up soon too :)

  14. Ronnica Says:

Jennifer: I know! I already use my experiences with guys to help the teenage girls I know…someone better learn from them!

Ari: When I first read that, I thought “She’s not 11!”

    Amanda: I think it’s a good one!

  15. Dana K. Says:

Yah for being an oyster! I’m thinking for me turtle may be more appropriate, can poke you head out, but it helps to have a protective shell over the insides. Haha, and Glee is awesome! Love you!

  16. Bethany Says:

Ronnica, I love that you do this. You’ve inspired me to create my own list! Except I have 30 things on mine…

  17. Lady Fi Says:

Hope you had a great birthday!
