What I Learned This Weekend

As nasty as these things are, they seem to pass quickly, praise God.

Disposable ice buckets make excellent barf buckets.

Having a nurse for an aunt is incredibly handy.

Watching my brother make his wedding vows is incredibly surreal.

My brother’s friends don’t remain high schoolers forever.

Illness is a great distraction when I’m trying not to cry.

Just because he’s getting married doesn’t mean my brother will stop being a pest.

Being ill gets me out of talking to virtual strangers.

Though the thought of most food makes me want to barf when I have a stomach bug, wedding cake still sounds appealing.

My brother can be kind and compassionate (to his sister!) when required.

My dad will always go to great lengths to care for his daughter.

When I’m ill, it’s always best to have my mommy around.

  1. Uuuugh…I caught what you have last night and it’s kept me up most of the night. Now I have even MORE sympathy for you!!!!!

And yes, I whole heartedly agree, having one’s mommy around when you are ill is the best thing EVER!

  2. I am SO sorry you were ill at such an important event but I’m also glad you were where they could care for you.

“Just because he’s getting married doesn’t mean my brother will stop being a pest.” There are pictures from my brother’s wedding of him poking me in the ribs and me looking MAD. I definitely know what you mean!

  3. I too, call my mom for sympathy when I’m sick. She’s not quick with it – because over the phone just doesn’t stir up her sympathy juices. Usually she’ll fake it for me to get me off the phone!! (I think it changes once your kid is over 30!!)

I have learned to call my friend Kimberly instead. She gives me all the gooey sympathy I want.

  4. Agreed! So glad you’re feeling better though and are enjoying working and being at home. I remember my brother and I fought like cats and dogs until I left for college. Then we suddenly became tolerable to each other. Now we’re close and enjoy each other’s company. Absence makes the heart grow fonder in this instance!

  5. I remember once when I was in seminary (in Kentucky) callin my mom (in SC) to tell her I was sick. She asked me what I wanted her to do about it and all I could say was “I’m just calling to tell you because you’re my mommy and you can make it better.” Even now that I’m married and a Mommy I still want mine when I’m sick. :) Glad you’re better.
