Snow Day

Oh my, this weekend was exactly what I needed after a crazy 3 months of travel, emotional highs and lows, sickness, and more work than I felt like I could handle at the time.
Start of the weekend: Friday was a good-busy day at work with an encouraging visit from a big boss and full of “snow day” excitement. That really doesn’t go away when you grow up, does it? Oh yeah, and did I mention, I got a raise? After work the day got better as I got to go HOME. As much as I love the people in my small group, I was craving time away from people.
Saturday we woke up to a blanket of snow, and the cold stuff still falling (actually, a lot of sleet later in the day). I do love snow…as long as it stays outside and I stay in. Still haven’t touched the stuff (though I’m going to have to make a run out to my car to get another can of Diet Dr Pepper this morning). Spent the day doing a little laundry and a lot of reading. Started The Help…so good!
Sunday church was cancelled and the city was just starting to wake up from the snow. Five inches of snow may seem like nothing to others, but that’s a lot here in the South when we don’t have the capabilities to do much with it. Another day of reading The Help, with a short break to watch Hairspray with the roommate.
And then today, the party continues. Of course, I can’t quite neglect work like I have the last two days, but I really just need to make a few calls to cancel our appointments and handle any new emails/voice mails that come in. All which can be handled here without leaving my comfy reading chair.
I will be going back to work tomorrow, possibly. Though honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they cancel school again (I don’t work in a school, but that’s how we determine if we’re open or closed for taxes). Even if I have to go in to work, it’ll be at noon at our yet non-busy site. Not bad! When this is all over, I’ll be ready to be around people again.

Goodmorning FGD…We received 6 inches of snow…still some on the parking lot…oh yes, our lovely parking lot. It is supposed to warm up a little today. When it snowed the big flakes several days ago, made me feel like I was back in Colorado…HAPPY FEBRUARY…

I thought I was going to have an easy Saturday to spend much time in a book, and it turned out I had more work to do than I realized. I think I read one chapter. :( Maybe I’ll get some reading in today. By the way, I finished 4 books in January. Woo hoo!

I love snow days! Enjoy your unexpected mini-vacation. The Help is an amazing book. I hope you continue to enjoy it.

Happy snow day! I think it’s cute that five inches cancels school…but I’m glad the weather was staved off until after the wedding!

Obviously we got a good bit of snow over here toward Charlotte also, and seriously, I don’t ever in my life remember seeing church cancelled. And every single church seemed to cancel services down here – except the Catholic one.
I grew up in northeastern Pennsylvania and not once that I can recall did a church close because of the crazy weather we’d get. But they do in the Bible belt? Crazy.

I am amazed by how much snow has been falling on you southern states! We’re used to it here, but down there, it must be quite the treat. Enjoy!

It has been a snowy year in the U.S. hasn’t it? We went through a phase where we (meaning my girls and I) were a bit obsessed with Hairspray. It was similar to how I felt about Grease when it first came out.

I just finished The Help this morning! Oh my word, that is the BEST book! Aren’t you loving it?

Brenda: If we had 3 feet of snow, we’d be buried until spring!

Pam: I did thoroughly enjoy it!
MinD: I think it’s more the fact that NO ONE wants to go out in the snow here in the South! Our church did have a semi-service for those who could make it, just not a regular Sunday.
Carabee: I’ve been around enough snow in the last few years (seems to always snow when I’m in Kansas these days, and I got snowed in in Chicago the Christmas before last) so the snow itself isn’t the “treat.” Having everything shut down though, is.
Janet: I’ve definitely used it as an excuse to get more sleep AND reading!
Debbie: I did love it a lot. For such a popular book, it wasn’t what I expected…it was much more traditionally “good” than sensationally “good” if that makes sense.
