“You don’t want to give God the credit because you don’t think he exists. But if you’re going to blame him for all the crap, kid, you got to give him credit for what grows from the fertilized soil.” – Shadow of the Giant by Orson Scott Card, p. 342
“It’s essential that you spend time reading and studying the Bible. Trouble is, that advice sounds a lot like ‘Eat less and get more exercise.’ In one ear and out the other. The difference is that fitness is good for life; God’s word is life.” – Get Married by Candice Watters, p. 73
“Will meeting God be like that? Will I be disappointed with the real thing, because I prefer the substitute I made do with?” – Shadow of the Giant by Orson Scott Card, p. 341
“Consequence management. That’s how we view sex – it’s why there’s so much emphasis on avoiding pregnancy and preventing STDs. But condoms can’t protect your heart.” – Get Married by Candice Watters, p. 129
“Our friendship was delicate, like a bubble, and I was afraid it would pop if I asked the wrong question. Where is this going? definitely felt like the wrong question.” – How to Say Goodbye in Robot by Natalie Standiford, p. 101
“Sometimes I feel doomed [because I'm single] to be less godly, less sanctified and vulnerable to the auto mechanic.” – Did I Kiss Marriage Goodbye? by Carolyn McCulley
“Men report that the number one reason they are choosing to marry later, if at all, is that sex without commitment is so widely available.” – Girls Gone Mild by Wendy Shalit, p. 15

“When plan B gets all the attention, it becomes plan A.” - Get Married by Candice Watters, p. 139
“Any God worth believing in could make up a better plan than the mess the world was in now.” – Shadow of the Giant by Orson Scott Card, p. 39
Oh my goodness! I LOVE all of those Shadow of a Giant quotes! Would you be terribly upset if I used one in a blog post? I think I might need to get that book actually! These are really great Ronnica, from what sounds like great books!
It doesnt matter if Im married those are some good quotes.
do you decorate your house with quotes? i have a few near my arts and craft area…. Im thinking of putting some more in the kids rooms…
The second to the last one – TRUTH. I spent a lot of time planning what I would do if I made it out of college and it didn’t look like marriage was on the horizon before that kind of dawned on me. Though I will say that me ending up with a boyfriend and then married had very little to do with anything *I* did.
Good quotes! What do you think of “Girls Gone Mild”?
Great quotes. I especially love them this week.
I particularly like the first quote by Card. So true (as all of them are, I do realize)!
Liz: Of COURSE you can use them! It’s a good book, though I must admit it’s the 8th in a sci-fi series, so I don’t know if it’s your cup of tea. =)
Rachel: I don’t, though I obviously love them. I think it would be a great thing to decorate with though…I’ll keep that in mind for the future!
Elizabeth: So far, most of my goals are the next step towards both marriage and life-long, fruitful singleness. But it’s definitely something to keep in mind…I don’t want to make choices that push me from my dream (marriage and family).
Amanda: I’m not far into it, but I’m enjoying it so far.
Caity: Apparently everyone does…I love these, too.
Carrie: While I wouldn’t usually put it that way, I love how he says it!
Wow, those are some telling quotes! The 7th one is interesting, I haven’t read that book I don’t think. If I did it’s been a long time. The second to last one makes me think. I’m like you, most of my goals have been going towards marriage/family. But what happens when a decision needs to be made and none of the choices are heading in that direction??
Bethany: Like I said to Elizabeth earlier, I’ve realized that my immediate choices (to pay off my student debt, to get healthy, to work on my sanctification) all are the next step towards marriage OR towards life-long singleness. If it gets to a point later that my next steps are different, I’ll prayerfully decide then.
