FQF: Blogging Sockless

1.  What do you value most in other people?

Being real. Not fake and not who they think I want them to be, but who they actually are, honestly. I hope I offer the same.

2.  What’s your favorite Girl Scout cookie?

Growing up, it was Carmel DeLites (Samoas with milk chocolate instead of dark…different names because they’re made by different companies). Now it’s Peanut Butter Patties. Didn’t get any this year, because nobody asked me! I think I need to look into being one of the mystery customers that girls get extra incentives to find. I always hoped I’d find one when I was a girl (sold them for 11 years!).

3.  If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the body or the mind of a 30-year-old for the last 60 years of your life, which would you want?

Definitely the mind. Losing my mental faculties is actually my biggest fear with aging, not wrinkles or bum joints. Though my mind is definitely already going downhill (along with my body), so can I go backwards and have the mind of a 22yo forever?

4.  Have you ever danced on a table, bar, or other platform?

I’ve danced on a stage, which is technically a platform. I’m not sure that’s what the question is asking, but I don’t lead a scandalous life.

5.  Are you wearing socks right now?

Nope. I rarely do in the summer. Which makes the 30 pairs of socks in my drawer a bit out of place. (I didn’t count…if very well could be more, but I don’t want to know)

I never get asked on the Girl Scout cookies, either. They don’t come to the door anymore. This neighborhood could be some kid’s gold mine! And I’m with you on number 1, though it takes secure people to be who they really are. Lots of people cast harsh judgments which makes people want to mirror instead of being authentic. I think we can contribute to how safe people feel by our attitudes and responses. I want to be a safe place.

I am with you on #3! I already started to get the bum joints almost 5 years ago. It stinks to not be able to move and exercise exactly like I used to, and I despise dealing with almost daily neck aches, but nothing compares to having your mental faculties about you!

My 30-year-old mind seems to be no prize at times. But I’m hoping to at least avoid further mental deterioration.

I’m with you on #3 as well! My body can be worked out and worked on, but my mind cannot, although my mind deteriorates faster each day that my children are alive…lol.

we are lucky we have a couple of friends who’s daughters are in girl scouts so we definitely manage to get a few boxes every year. the family favorite are samoas, with a box of thin mints thrown in to mix it up a bit :).

You mean there aren’t any girl scouts hanging out around your local grocery store? We get bombarded whenever we go to the store around cookie selling time. :)

How can you escape girl scout cookies? We set up shop here locally at all the major digs – Walmart, Lowe’s, Ryan’s…

This was my daughter’s first year selling them. We had a lot of fun.

Then of course, there are always the rude people:

One elderly gentleman in a motorized scooter told my daughter that he was going to run over her if she didn’t get out of the way.

Another gentleman (and I use the term liberally) called us Girl Scout Nazis.

Really? A simple “no, thank you” would have sufficed.

  8. Ronnica Says:

Robynn: I want to be a safe place, too, though I’m afraid I’m not always. Gotta work on it.

Kristen, Iva: True, true. But that would require cash or check, neither which I carry. Probably for the best!

Yep – loosing mental function as I get older kinda freaks me out. That’s why I try to do crosswords puzzles & suduko – games that make me thing…

That’s interesting about the Samoas – carmel delites sounds so much more yummy!!!! Add Carmel onto anything & it sounds much better!

I feel the same way…I never want to lose my mind, although I do feel like I am sometimes!!

Along with being real (which I am still working on), I want people to feel comfortable being themselves around me, without fear that I will judge them. Given my diverse group of friends, I think I am succeeding on that point. :-)

Yes, yes! The mind of a 20 year old? =D I’ll take that!

I’m with you on real honesty also. Makes the best kind of friend!

  12. Liz Says:

I’ve probably got that many socks in my drawer too. I cannot go barefoot in the house during the summer, though. My feet are always cold, especially with the A/C on. It blows right across the floor.

Have not been over to see you for a while. Looks like you have been pretty busy!
Looks like we are all in agreement concerning the mind. My 89 year old mother is just this year showing signs of confusion. Up until her eyes went on her last year she read everything she could get her hand son. I really think that helped her remain so sharp for so long.
Hope you enjoy your new digs and can settle down for a while.
Also hope I make it back much sooner than I have before:)
OOPS, there goes one of those little Happy Faces!! LOL

I’m with you about the mental faculties thing. When I worked at the nursing home (and I’m sure I’ll encounter it at the nursing home I’m volunteering at), I was reminded that there is nothing scarier than having lost one’s mind. Scary for the victim, and scary for those surrounding them. We had docs who would actually write prescriptions for crosswords and other mental exercises. It does help.

I love Girl scout cookies! My favorite are the peanut butter ones… I can’t remember what they are called. Samoas are amazing too. I had to have my mom get me some this year because I didn’t have any girls come to the house, plus they don’t sell them here at the local grocery storms. The grocery stores around my parents house has the girls out there for a good week selling them… I should have gotten more boxes…
