FQF: Pretentious on a Plane
Posted in Mixed Bag and tagged with Color, Entertainment, Five Question Friday, Movie, School, Sounds on August 13, 20101. Where do you like to sit on a plane?
First class! Okay, they’ve only offered that to me once, when they cancelled my flight. I was 17. Yeah, they definitely don’t do that anymore, unless you’re a dignitary or something.
Seriously though, I like to sit as far front as possible (last on, first off). I prefer seat “A”, the window on the left (when you are sitting down). I’ve done a lot of experimenting, and I’ve determined that that’s the best seat for me to feel like I have room as my left side is not against some stranger (I’m left-handed).
I also have a trick of changing seats at the last minute. I frequently fly without someone beside me by doing this! I have the best of luck…if there is one empty seat on the plane, there’s about a 50% chance it’ll be next to me.
And no, I don’t think it’s because I smell. Thanks for asking.
2. What sound irritates you?
Tapping and buzzing noises. I don’t like the sound of fans in bathrooms. Any buzzing sound will set me on edge and I will be unable to concentrate on anything else. And no, I haven’t always been like this (thankfully!), but it would be distracting while trying to concentrate in class the last few years I was in school.
3. What’s something in your life that just isn’t colorful enough?
My car. Unfortunately, all my options really ran the spectrums of grey, so I went for more of a graphite. I like my car, but it lacks the zest of my last car that was electric blue. I’d also love to drive a purple car one day.
4. What’s a film you were sure you would dislike but ended up liking?
Get Smart. Saw it with the family when we were on vacation, and I thought it’d be super stupid. Turned out to be quite funny.
5. What kind of grades did you get in school?
All A’s until AP Calculus. (Wow, I realize how pretentious that sentence sounds.) And then in college and seminary I had a good mix of As and Bs (and that one C in a freshman-level class in my major in my last semester), trying to get no more than 1 B a semester.

I get what you mean about the buzzing sound. OMG I hate it. In my apartment, they wallpapered the bathroom (STUPID, RIGHT?) and I have to have the fan on. Instead, I leave the door open because that sound drives me absolutely batty. I don’t know why or when it started but it causes me to snap! Lol.
Do you ride planes a lot? I don’t know if I have a favorite spot because I’ve flown maybe 5-7 times my whole life. I think I would like to be first on, last off though. I hate to feel in the way. Lol.
That was hardly pretentious. I mean, it didn’t come off that way. When I was attending college I got mostly A’s and B’s until that ONE English class. ONE ENGLISH PROFESSOR. He was really English too. I think that it’s stupid to have an English English professor at an American school. That’s like having someone from India teaching English. Lol.
Oh well…
Sorry for the late response. I missed your comment somehow and I’m very, very sorry! I saw your VLog btw. You are super cute! <3 Those PJs are darling! :P

Angelica: I do fly quite a bit, usually at least 4x a year (with 4 planes each trip…I’ve been around!).

Yep.. Get Smart!!! I thought the same thing, that it would be so stupid.. but actually it was cute! Love Steve Carrell anyways!

I thought Get Smart was hilarious. Occasionally I have these weird laughing fits where I just can’t stop for about 5 minutes… and usually something not-funny-at-all sets it off. I started having one when Steve Carrel was throwing up in a paper bag during Get Smart. I seriusly couldn’t stop and everyone was staring at me. SO AWKWARD.
Also.. I saw you fly about 4 times a year. What kinds of places do you go?

Heather: I visit my family in KS 3 times a year, and then usually go somewhere else (to visit a friend, vacation, or travel overseas) as well.

I was so sure that this post was going to be about that flight attendant from Jet Blue. Glad it wasn’t, that story is getting wayyyy too much press.
Thanks for the tip about the empty seat! I visit my sister alone sometimes, I am sooo borrowing your idea to switch at the last minute.

Funky little blog. I like it. And I like first class. You’d be surprised how often I fly first class for free. If the ticket counter asks for someone to take a voluntary “bump” to next flight, I ask for first class upgrade and always get it. Thus far 3 or 4 times. Nice. I don’t like squeaks on airplanes. That’s scary. Otherwise buzzing and tapping are okay by me as I am going deaf a bit more each year. Dropping in via SITS.

Karen: Yeah, that’s a big no. Someone going postal and quitting their job shouldn’t be news. I hope that my tip works for you (and that it’s not just me)!
Laurie: Thanks! All the flights I’ve been on always seem to have a full first class…there are a lot of business travelers in/out of NC. I don’t mind sitting coach (I have short legs) if there’s no one beside me.

This was a fun read! I remember wanting to do AP Calculus… then I got to Pre-Calc and I thought, what on earth am I thinking? I like English, French, History, Music, and Psychology, not math! Luckily I reminded myself of this *before* choosing senior year classes, haha.

Noooooooo, I can handle buzzing (I think). I can’t handle squeaking and screeching – like when people drag their utensils across their plates. Oh man, it makes my blood run cold.
Sweet blog. :)

Leia: I’m actually one of those weird ones that actually thinks that calculus is easier than pre-calculus…and more fun! (Am I destined to be a math teacher, or what!)
Roo: Ha, that’s annoying. My former roommate had dishes that were particularly loud…I always felt guilty when I was eating the last bit of whatever out of the bowl because of the noise I’d be making.
