The Big One-Oh-Oh-Oh

Welcome to the Ignorant Historian! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This is it.  THE big one. My 1,000 blog post.

And while I don’t blog primarily for you, I don’t think I’d still be at it without your readership (yes, you too, young lady in the back) and your comments.

So as a thank you, I’m offering you this vlog.*

You read that right: a real-live VIDEO of yours truly.

And thank you, YouTube for that hilarious screen shot. (And I may be a YouTube newbie, but I actually know how to change it…but didn’t.  That might be the funniest part of the whole video.)

(If that doesn’t work, you can see it here.)

Things I meant to say in the video but got too nervous and forgot:

  • I have trouble putting words together OUT LOUD.  I hope you’d agree that I can do a decent job in writing.
  • This was filmed at the end of a long day.  Just another part of my realness straight from me to you.
  • That stain was from a cookies and cream milkshake from Chick-fil-a.
  • My hair, jewelry, and makeup looked nice so I decided to shoot the vlog today, not the other way around.  I know that I don’t have to get dressed up for you all.
  • Speaking of dressing up, those PJ bottoms are one of the pairs my mom made and sent me a couple weeks ago.
  • I think my lovely blue room makes a lovely back drop, don’t you?
  • I used a big stack of library books as a tripod.  Glad I had them handy, but I suppose I should get reading them again.
  • I might not be so opposed to doing future vlogs…if only I knew what to do them on.  If you have any ideas, hit me.

Thanks again, truly, for reading!

*If my 1,000th post is a vlog, is it really a BLOG post?

  1. CONGRATS!! on your 1000th post! And you did a great job for not liking to speak on camera. I’m sure it gets easier over time. I bet if you start doing these more and more you’d be able to pull words together seamlessly and look like a pro (not that didn’t pull your words together well on this post) :)

    Here’s to 1000 more!

  2. AHHH – that was great “HEARING” you & seeing you move & talk in real life! And that’s why we love you – because you ARE real! In a stained shirt & PJ’s… love that! Everyone loves a real gal!

Congrats on 1,000 posts! I’m at 950 so now you’ve got me thinking I need to do a Vlog myself… if I do, I’m totally giving you a shout out!

Keep it up lady – 2,000 posts is just around the corner! :)

  3. Yay for vlogging! Love those jammies – I tend to put my jammies on as soon as I’m home for the day. I’ve been known to put jammies on and then realize I need to go out again, and thus have to change back, but if I’m not going anywhere, jammies it is! (Love yours btw!)

Congrats on 1,000 posts! Woohoo! :-D

  4. Marilyn: Good. =) It definitely wouldn’t be more than “occassional”…no way I’m turning this into a mostly vlog blog!

Jamie: I find it incredibly awkward and weird. But I did it a few times and got more comfortable with it, just like speaking in front of a crowd.

Vicki: Thanks! I do think I want to do more…I just don’t know what to do them on. Ideas?

Rebecca Jo: You definitely should! I think it’s a perfectly appropriate time to do a vlog…and I’d love to “see” you!

  5. 1,000!!!! Congrats!!! I’m on vacation and I took out my laptop so I could share in this special day with you! Love the vlog. I want a cute pair of pj pants like that. Your mom should sell them at the Ignorant Historian :) A giveaway maybe!

Can’t wait until the next 1,000 and all the great posts to read between!

  6. You did type along with the vlog, so my vote, as if it really matters, is that it counts as a blog post.

I did get my boys to be quiet while I listened. They were tossing nerf gun bullets around the room at each other. I don’t think they found you (in their words) ‘gripping’ enough to watch, but when I told one in particular that your stain was from a cookies and cream milkshake from Chick-Fil-A, he got this look on his face that is indescribable in words and said, “She’s taunting me.” We don’t have them here, and they are his favorite place in the world to eat. It might tie with steak. Sound like a teenager, hint, hint. ;)

    Congratulations on 1,000!

  7. Kayren: Ha, I can’t believe I wasn’t interesting enough for your boys, lol.

I lived years without Chick-fil-a, but that’s before I knew it’s goodness. It wasn’t until I moved to NC that I got hooked!

  8. Congrats on 1,000. That’s huge! I have 630 on my current WordPress version of Lemonade Life, 217 on the Blogger version of Lemonade Life, and then 39 posts on a blog that I kept during my Lemonade Life hiatus (but had the same readership), which only brings me to around 880. I’ll have to start paying attention to my numbers more closely so I can make sure not to miss it!

  9. It’s always a wee bit odd hearing a blogger talk, ha.

Congratulations on 1,000!! Definitely a big milestone and thank you for sharing it in a different way with us.

  10. I’m totally shocked that you did a vlog, but what a way to do a 1,000th post.

And YES, a vlog is really a blog post. I think I saw someone suggest vlogging book reviews. I’ll throw a vote in for that, too.

Congrats on your blog’s longevity. :)

  11. Ronnica…this was great! I’m waaaaaaaay past my 1000th…maybe I’ll have to try this for my 2000th, ha! Actually, I did a little video several months ago when a blog friend in Paraguay challenged me. I think it’s still somewhere back in my archives but I couldn’t begin to tell you where. It’s always SO interesting to actually see and hear a person, especially after READING how they sound!

It’s funny you mentioned in your comment today about the distraction of my blog header with the flashing lighthouse. I’d just been thinking it was time to do an update on my blog look so while my grandboys were napping today I sat down and did some ‘redecorating’. Considering I just did a major ‘housecleaning’ a few days ago, I think I’m on a roll! :-)

  12. Congratulations on 1000 posts and for making your first vlog! It’s nice to put the voice with the words. Here’s to many, many more posts to come…

  13. Liz: I know, right? I think I remember telling you when you would do your regular ones that I’d NEVER do that…guess that means not until I wrote 999 other posts first! I actually kind of liked it, though I was incredibly nervous. I don’t think it’ll be my last one.

Debra: No promises, but I think that’s quite likely!

    Erin: Thanks. =P

  14. Congratulations on 1,000 posts! I think you did well for your first vlog…though you did say “ummm” a lot. ;-)

I cracked up when you showed us your PJ’s. Others might have been all gussied up, but you showed us who you really are, which means you are very comfortable with yourself. :-)

  15. Congrats on your 1,000 post! That is quite an accomplishment. Loved the vlog. It was fun to hear your voice and see you in on video. Great job!

  16. Hey! I was out of town all this past week so I’m catching up and lo and behold -in my google reader – a TREAT! =D That’s awesome! Ok and now I feel pressured to do something like this for MY 1,000th post. Although I have the same dislike of being seen on camera. We’ll see what happens. ;D

This was seriously cool though! (Love the pajama bottoms!)

  17. Tami: Glad it didn’t ruin it for ya. ;)

Elizabeth: I think vlogs may be addicting…I’m looking forward to doing more, for some reason!

Carrie: I’d love to see you, though!
