Back to School

It’s that time of year…back to school time! It’s always been one of my favorite times of year.

No, I’m not going back to school. I’ve been out for almost 4 years and while I certainly won’t rule out going back, it’s definitely not on the 5-year plan. Still, this time of year, though a bit arbitrary for the non-student, feels like a fresh start.

I want it to be a fresh start.

I need a fresh start.

So that’s what I’m going to do. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve slowly been focusing on eating better and making some other changes. Nothing huge (yet) but baby steps.

But I’m ready to start making a few strides in the right direction.

Here goes.

  1. Even though I haven’t been back to school in a couple of years, I still get in that mindset, too. I covet all the cute school supplies at Target, and I’m definitely starting to itch for fall fashion… though I’m nowhere near ready for summer to be over.

  2. I feel the same way. I’ve been out of school much, much longer, but I still get that “fresh start” feeling at this time of year, more so even than in January. The film “You’ve Got Mail” captured this well in the quote, “Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.”

I don’t have a pressing need for a “fresh start” feeling in a big way this year myself. But I still like that feeling. I still get inspired and motivated to do something, even if it’s just something on the trivial side like clean the junk out of my basement, etc.

Good luck to you on your fresh start! Baby steps. :)

  3. I think baby steps are important when you first decide to make changes, it’s always easier and quicker to accomplish things if you start slowly, well depending on what the goals are of course.

I never liked the idea of going back to school, and in fact I still really don’t like seeing all the signs that clothing shops and stationers put up at the end of July, but now I’m at university I do get excited about studying again.
