The Little Ones

I’ve always loved working with children (remembering telling my mom when I was still a child myself that I was good with children), from babysitting on and off for almost 15 years now to summer camp and VBS.  Though I don’t yet have my own, I do hope to have a large family some day, Lord-willing.  This is now my 5th year working with 5th and 6th graders in AWANA (my favorite age group) and teaching Sunday School to kindergarteners.  We all know children say and do the funniest things, and here are some great examples.

Big Girls Don’t Cry?…Abby went on to tell me that she was crying for her mom and dad, but was embarrassed because she’s 7 and shouldn’t cry. After all, big girls don’t cry…

“It Ate Its Butt!”…It was a rabbit, with its coat still wet from the rain earlier in the day, lying there dead in the middle of the sidewalk.  And it had a huge bite out of its rear end…

A Church Taboo?…In the natural course of conversation last night, somehow the girls started talking about teenage pregnancy. Not a usual topic for church, but it never reached a point where I felt I needed to stop it…
