I’m Judgy

This fall, I had the exciting opportunity to be a judge for the INSPYs creative non-fiction category (re-reading that sentence, I realize that it sounds like I’m about to write a middle school essay).  The INSPYs are awards given by bloggers for good faith-driven books.

I’ve mentioned before my distrust of the “Christian” name given to books (and other things), so I’m glad that this word doesn’t do that, but does seek to fix the problem.  It is possible to write good fiction (and creative non-fiction in the case of the category I helped judge…think memoirs) from a Christian viewpoint, and that’s what the INSPYs is seeking to promote.

In our category, we chose Rachel Held Evans’ Evolving in Monkey Town for the INSPY as it was funny, true to life, and dealt honestly with the questions Evans had about her faith.  While I don’t necessarily come to the same conclusions that she does, I do recommend this book as an interesting, provoking read.

I look forward to reading some of the other books chosen in the other categories.

Awards Smorgasbord

(I’m a pretty good speller, but I definitely had to look that one up!)

I’ve been overwhelmingly blessed by you all with award after award these past few weeks.  I’m very thankful!

First off, Jen, the Dust Bunny Hostage who you hear me mention so much because I just can’t get enough of her and her blog, gave me the Marie Antoinette Award, for bloggers who write about real life.  Thanks, Jen!

I will now pass this award on to:

Mrs. Mouthy - Rachel is hilarous as she writes about everyday successes and failures (like most of us, she seems to see more of the later).  Not your average mommy blogger!

Next, the ever Opi-loving (don’t confuse “Opi” with “opium”), snap-hating (I’m not explaining that…read her blog) Smoochiefrog gave me this award:

proximidade_award

The fine print: “This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY – nearness in space, time and relationships. These blogs are extremely charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly written text into the body of their award.”

Thanks, Smoochiefrog!  I’ll be passing it on to:

1.  Heather @ Nobody But Yourself - Heather’s a great blog buddy, and I’ve enjoyed getting to “know” her and her daughter!

2.  Iva @ Horizontal Yo-Yo – I’m not sure how Iva found me a while back, but I’m so glad she did!

3.  TRS @ Single Solitary Things – TRS reached out to me when she saw I wanted accountability to my workout routine.  It’s not her fault that I haven’t reached my goal one week yet this year!

4.  Amanda @ Ace News and Views – Amanda is so much more than a blog friend, as we know each other in real life.  Her relationship with my brother wouldn’t require us to be friends, but I’m so glad that we are.

5.  Debateur @ Debateur Debates – I’ve enjoyed getting to know the debateur behind the debates!

6.  Hi-D @ Bugs, Boys, and Burritos – Hi-D is becoming a good blog friend (I’m sure her winning my gift card had nothing to do with it!).

7.   Julie @ Journey to Family – Purple house and all, Julie’s blog is a fun read!  I’ve got to commend her on her commenting as well.

8.  Michelle @ One Crafty Mama – Michelle’s great and really reached out to me!

Additionally (hey, it was always on the list of transitions that are acceptable alternatives to “then”), new blog friend Karabeth gave me the “Got Lemons? Make Lemonade” award, for my handling of living in North Carolina.  I tell ya, it isn’t as trying as it sounds, but I appreciate the award!  The fine print:

  1. Put the logo on your blog or post.
  2. Nominate at least 10 who show great Attitude and/or Gratitude.
  3. Be sure to link to your nominees within your post.
  4. Let them know they have received this award by commenting on their blog.
  5. Share the love and link to this post and to the person from whom you received this award.

lemonadeaward1Whew, I think I’m going to have to award ever person I know to get through these large numbers!   Regardless, I think that these ladies are deserving of this award:

1. Jen @ Dust Bunny Hostage- Perhaps it’s considered bad blog etiquette to give an award to someone in the same post that you are receiving an award from, but I don’t care.  She’s recently moved from one part of Alabama to another and has had a great attitude about it.  Even when she was bit by a poisonous spider at her old house.

2. Brenda @ It’s All Good – Brenda does a great job pointing us to Christ in all things.  Her daughter also moved out last week, so I thought she could use a pick-me-up.

3. Amy Beth @ Min So Fab – Amy Beth is a wonderful blogger, and one I can relate so much too as a fellow single gal!  She hasn’t had it easy, but she does her best to love on the girls God has placed in her life.

4.  Lynda @ Art on a Limb - Lynda’s blog is funny, but real.  Her life trials include tensions at work with an eccentric coworker and at home with her teenager, but she’s not mopey about them!

5.   Allison @ The Displaced Texan – She’s in Germany, but she’s making the best of it.  She’s set sail an Ugly Kite to travel the US!

6.  Cara @ Land of Bean - Cara’s a fellow Kansas girl living on the East Coast…and she has a beautiful little daughter!

7.  Evy @ Yes, They Are All Mine - A woman who’s not afraid to leave her comfort zone and travel the world!

8.  What A Card – Does having 3-year-old twin boys alone qualify her for this award?  Probably, but she writes a great blog, too!

9.  Jen @ Buried with Children – Her 4 kids under 4 definitely can be trying at times…did I mention that 3 of them are triplets?

10.  Vicki @ Not So SAHM – I love Vicki’s attitude and perspective on life!  She also does a great job rounding up the best posts of the week.

The recent SITS-feature (I knew her before she was famous) Rachel Ann has given me the One Lovely Blog award.

Not sure about any fine print, so I’m just going to do what I want with it.  I’m giving this award to:

Liz of Discovering Liz- she may be the last to receive an award from me today, but she was the first one I decided to give an award to today.  She’s a great blogger and a great bloggy friend.

Thanks, all!

Everyday Kindness Award

A week or so ago, I was awarded the Everday Kindness award by Jacki at Moving at the Speed of Life.

I want to pass this award along to those bloggers that I find enjoyable and refreshing. Who needs bitterness and griping? I appreciate these bloggers who consider the good times and the bad from a joyful, godward perspective:

Cindy (Still His Girl) - She simply makes me smile, and her blog oozes with kindness, joy, and love.

Kerry (One Mom) – She is a great help in this presidential race as she tracks Huckabee-related news.

Kathy and Tim (Duckabush) - They’re always good for a laugh, and I totally mean that in a good way.
