Welcome to the Ignorant Historian! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
At 28, I really don’t have a lot of gray. But since my hair’s been falling out (though it seems to have stopped…yay!), it’s not wise to pluck the grays I find…I need every hair I can grow! Perhaps it’s vain of me, but I refuse to be gray-haired and single. Adds to the whole spinster thing.
I was really nervous about dyeing my hair myself. Starting with picking the color…wanted something really subtle. Me but better, ya know?
But I did it. Got a box of “pecan, medium golden brown” hair color, and went for it. As you can see below, it wasn’t a disaster, and I really like the color. It’s definitely subtle—in fact, no one commented on it at church, so either it’s horrible (though I’m sure one of the preteen boys would have pointed that out) or it’s not noticeable enough to ask about. I definitely count this a success!

For some time my hair has been bugging me. It’s longer than it’s ever been, and I was aching for a haircut. Here’s the results! Sorry for the strange angles…I did what I could with a camera and a mirror. Boy…you can tell that I was tired last Monday (when I took the before pictures)!

An improvement, don’t you think?

People always say that their children make their hair turn gray.
That’s why I think it’s unfair and utterly ridiculous for I, a 26yo, childless virgin, should have more gray hairs on my head than I’ve had years in my life (and that doesn’t include the ones I’ve plucked).
People say stress makes your hair turn gray. What stress have I known? Work isn’t stressful, except for a few days out of the year and entire month of February (and even then, I love that tax-season stress). My personal life is without guy drama or friend drama or family drama, so that’s not stressful, either.
I made a decision about 5 years ago that I wouldn’t dye my hair again until it started going gray. Who knew that that day would come so soon? That the next time I see my hairdresser I’m going to ask her about options for dyeing my hair?
