Some time ago, Teacher Girl tagged me in a meme. I couldn’t tell you when the last time I did a chain letter-ish meme (versus things like Top Ten Tuesdays), so I thought I’d play along!

The Rules

You must post these rules.
Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post. [a rule I'm going to break]
Go to their page and tell them you linked him or her.
No tag backs.
No stuff in the tagging section about “you are tagged if you are reading this.” You have to legitimately tag 11 people. [once again, I'm not tagging.]

11 Things about Me

1. I’ve written more “things about me” on this blog than I can count. I’m just that self-absorbed. Here’s 100 that I wrote 4 years ago.

2. It really bugs me when my nail polish or purse (or worse, both!) match my outfit. I don’t want them to clash, necessarily, but I don’t like to look all matchy-matchy.

3. I get obsessed with colors for a time, then move on to another color. Right now, my obsessive colors is blue, especially navy blue. I never understood before why people would like navy blue, but I get it now.

4. I don’t like wearing shoes that require socks. Just one more thing I have to do in the morning.

5. Actually, I’d be fine without shoes, as long as I had something to wear while I’m sitting still. My feet don’t really get cold when I’m using them.

6. Going off of #2 and #4, I paint my nails ever week and go through phases as to which are my favorite nail polish colors. Right now, my favorites are several shades of blue (navy, a dark cerulean, and periwinkle).

7. I immediately change into pajamas when I get home in the evening and will stay in them until I have a place to go the next day. During my unemployment, they were the first items of clothing that I would run out of before I had to do laundry again. Life is better in pajamas.

8. I’ve not been reading much fiction lately. Well, I listen to fiction on audio, but I’ve not had much appetite for reading it with my eyeballs. It should not take 2 months for me, a reader, to read one fiction book.

9. I’ve never owned an Apple product and probably never will. Nothing against Apple necessarily, I just don’t like having what everyone else has.

10. I don’t like it light/bright. Sunlight is wonderful (as long as I have sunglasses!), but apart from that, I don’t like much lighting. At home, I usually just have one small lamp on and have even been known to read by Christmas tree light or candlelight. I find the dark cozy.

11. I much prefer a spoon to a fork. I only use forks when I “have” to. I also prefer a bowl to a plate.

Answers to Teacher Girl’s Questions

1. If you could be any character from a book, who would you be and why?

I actually really like being me, so this is a hard question. Though it would be weird to be a girl again, I think I’d choose Lucy from The Chronicles of Narnia.

2. If you were going to move anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Well, I kinda have a secret answer to this question, but if I disregard that, I’d say Turkey.

3. What is something embarrassing that happened to you that you now think is funny?

Pretty much any embarrassing thing that’s happened to me. For example, I once bleacher surfed down half the bleachers after a high school pep rally… embarrassing and painful.

4. What do you do when you have “nothing to do?”

Sadly, crochet (not the sad part) while watching TV. Wish I’d pick up a book as my default. Or put my puzzle together, listening to an audio book.

5. What was the last book you read?

At this writing (February 7th), the last book I was reading was Debt-Proof Living by Mary Hunt. Good to read a finance book every once in a while to motivate me to my goals.

6. What are the top 5 songs on your playlist right now?

The top 5 songs I can’t currently get enough of are “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” by Chris Eaton, “Jesus, Hold Me Now” by Casting Crowns, Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor (for reals), “Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO (ahem), and “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5. Um, I’m a little all-over the map.

7. How many pairs of shoes do you own?

Good question. Just counted: I have 17 pairs of shoes and 12 pairs of flip flops. That’s actually less than I thought. I’m still working on paring them down to just those I actually do wear.

8. Never have I ever…

Been to Dallas. Not true any more (I fly into Dallas about once a year now), but that was always my standard answer when we would play this in college. About half the people playing were from Texas (many from the Dallas area), so I could knock out a bunch of people at once.

True answer: never have I ever skiied.

9. If _____ showed up at my door…

If anyone showed up at my door, I’d jump out of my skin. I’m not used to visitors, if you don’t count the UPS man.

10. What is something you are afraid of?

I’m afraid of looking stupid. I know that this is a pride issue.

11. Tell me something wonderful that happened to you this week (or month, ya know, if it has been a bad week).

At work, I helped someone solve a problem with their computer that I’ve never done before myself. That’s the art of tech support, and I loved it. It was scary until he told me my solution worked.

Questions for You (for anyone who wants to take up the challenge)

1. What’s a book that made you think?

2. What moment in a book or movie made you cry unexpectedly?

3. What is something that you’ve always secretly wanted to try, but you are too scared to?

4. If you could only drink one thing besides water for the rest of your life, what drink would you choose?

5. If you went back to school (or were to change your major), what would you want to study?

6. What class was/is your favorite?

7. Cherry, grape, or orange? (I’m thinking popsicles, but feel free to adapt your answer.)

8. If you had to dye your hair an unnatural color, which color would you choose?

9. As a child, what name did you want to name a child when you grew up?

10. Star Wars or Star Trek?

11. If you walk up to a white board that has black, red, green, and blue markers in the tray, which would you pick up and use? (for illustration purposes, let’s assume that they’re all brand new)

Most Loved Books

You about didn’t get a post today.  I’m not necessarily tied to the daily posting, but since I’m so regular, I’m afraid people (i.e. my family) will be concerned if I mysteriously don’t post one day without explanation.

But, at the eleventh hour (which for me, is 9 PM last night), I found an idea for a post.  Okay, I had an idea before, on a subject that is near and dear to my heart, but it’s not something that I can coherently write about with sickie-brain.  (Mom, it’s not so much that I’m *sick* sick, just feel like I coming down with something, so I’ve been resting.  My usual October allergies, I think.)

See how much I’m rambling?  I prove my point.

Anyway, I found this meme on Facebook, and I thought it’d make a great post.  The idea is to list 15 books that have really stuck with you.  I’m going to type these just as they come to my head.  Here goes…

Special Topics of Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl

The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder

The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg

Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden

The Visitation by Frank Peretti

Red by Ted Dekker

Radical by David Platt

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (the audio)

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

Tom Jones by Henry Fielding

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

Alright, there they are.  Interesting to me that they’re mostly novels.  I suppose that makes sense, though, as it’s the imagery of them that has often stuck out to me.

What would be on your list?

Analyze This

Rarely do memes anymore, but this one I just had to do. Who wants to see my handwriting?  I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it.

About Time for a YouYou

You know what we haven’t done in like, forever? A YouYou.  I think it’s time to bring one back, don’t you think?

And for you naysayers who think I’m only doing this because I had nothing else to say this morning, well, you’re right.

Leave a comment and I’ll tell you/make up:

1.  Your favorite subject from back in school.

2.   What word I think about when I think about you.

3.  Which animal you should buy as a pet.

So come on and join in on the fun!

By the Book(s)

Saw this on Pam’s blog and just had to do it.  I’m going to answer the following questions by giving a title of a book that I’ve read this year, without repeating a title.  Links are to my reviews.  Here goes!

Describe yourself: Radical Womanhood by Carolyn McCulley

How do you feel: Darkness Be My Friend by John Marsden

Describe where you currently live: Between Two Worlds by Zainab Salbi

If you could go anywhere, where would you go? White Picket Fences by Susan Meissner

Your favorite form of tranportation: Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde

Your best friend is: Sister of My Heart by Chitra Divakaruni

You and your friends are: Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer

What’s the weather like: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

You fear: Betrayed! by Stan Telchin

What is the best advice you have to give: A Chance to Die by Elisabeth Elliot

Thought for the day: Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

My soul’s present condition: In the Name of God by Paula Jolin

A couple of those are a stretch, but it was still fun!

30 Questions

1. Where was the very last place you went besides your house?

Church, where I had a lot of fun playing with a bunch of preteen girls.  I’m going to miss those girls.

2. What are you doing tonight?

Chillaxing in front of the TV…does that make me seem more real?  See, I don’t spend all my free time in books.

3. Who last texted you?

Jen.

4. Do you have a secret that you’ve never told anyone?

Yes.

5. Do you get mad easily?

Not really, but sometimes if I’m stressed.

6. Do you talk about your feelings or hide them?

HIDE.  But I have done better in recent years of processing them through journaling.

7. Do you prefer warm or cold weather?

Give me 100-degree dry heat any day over 32 and snowy.

8. Who was the last person you were in a car with?

Jen, going to Blockbuster.

9. What color are your eyes?

They once were described as poopy brown but a particularly unkind guy friend.  They are pretty light for brown eyes, with speaks of green and yellow in them.

10. Have you ever given up on someone but then went back to them later?

Oh yeah, story of my high school relationships.

11. Have you ever thrown your cell phone in anger?

Nah, I’m not really one to throw/punch/kick.  I DO clench up and tear up.

12. Has anyone told you a secret lately that you aren’t allowed to tell anyone?

A few preteens, haha.

13. Honestly, if you could go back six months and change something, would you?

I can’t think of anything, so no.

14. Are you wearing any clothes that don’t belong to you?

Nope.

15. Do you have a lot on your mind at the moment?

Not really.  As far as seasons of life go, I’m in a pretty stable one.  Of course, that could change any day.

16. What side of the bed do you sleep on?

I have a twin, and believe it or not, I prefer it.  I like to always be touching at least one edge of the bed.  It’s not like I’m going to be inviting anyone into my bed anytime soon, anyway.

17. What is your favorite thing to shop for?

Books.  Or maybe shoes.  Hmm, I would love a big shopping spree at a book/shoe store.

18. Who knows you better than you know yourself?

There’s a few people that might, I’m not sure.

19. What are you doing this summer?

Nothing different.  No trips at all planned, due to lack of cash and vacation days (saving them up for November).  I do plan on keeping up the building of good habits that I’ve been trying to do lately.  And watch SYTYCD.  It’s really the only show that I’ll watch that you have a hard time missing a week on.

20. Do you miss your past?

I’ve liked every stage of life I’ve been in, each one more than the last.

21. Did you ever have tea parties when you were younger?

Not really, though I did have a ceramic tea set that sat on my nightstand for years.

22. What is your favorite line from a movie?

If I were to cheat, it would be part of the Ocean’s 11 Danny/Tess conversation, but if we’re talking about one line, I’d have to say the Pirates quote I mentioned the other day, “She’s safe, just like I promised. She’s all set to marry Norrington, just like she promised. And you get to die for her, just like you promised. So we’re all men of our word, really. Except Elizabeth, who is in fact, a woman.”   I don’t know what it is about it.

23. Would you rather be the opposite sex?

Boys are yucky.

24. What would you never name one of your children?

If it weren’t for Gone with the Wind, I think Scarlet would be a neat name, but I’d hate her to turn out to be a spoiled brat.  If it weren’t for a high school boyfriend, I would love the name Grant.  So yeah, not those names.

25. What is the coolest restaurant you’ve ever been to?

I don’t know about cool, as I don’t tend to like fancier places.  My favorite restaurant though, is a steakhouse in Kansas called Timberline.  Their salads, cheese fries, honey mustard, and mashed potatoes are the best I’ve ever had.

26. Where do you go when you want to get a really good sub sandwich?

If I’m going for a good sub, I prefer Quizno’s, but I frequent Subway because they’re cheaper and healthier (at least what I get).

27. What style of house would you like to live in?

I don’t know the names of the style, but ideally it would have a garden, a good sized living area, and a library.

28. Do you flip the channel when commercials come on?

Rarely.  I don’t like to watch commercials though (I still think commercials can’t be healthy), so I’m usually doing something else.

29. Have you seen any of the Saw movies?

Have I ever seen any horror movie?  Yeah right.  Just today, someone scared me by walking around the side of the building while I was watering my flowers.

30. What was your favorite book as a child?

I’m not sure about favorite, but I really like the Boxcar Children, the Betsy books, and the Babysitter’s Club books.

(Found this on Ministry So Fabulous.)

I Know the Art to Being a Good Psychic

So many of you mentioned that I’m good at guessing the info for the 4 questions on my birthday post. It makes me realize how psychics operate.

1. Get one thing right that they never would expect, and that’ll keep them from thinking about what you got wrong.

2. Be vague and/or use words with double meanings. They’ll automatically take it whichever way makes more sense to them.

3. Study, study, study! There are all sorts of clues everywhere. I had to pick up my clues from your blogs, but the principle still stands. Often i chose what I assumed to be your favorite color as the color you would dye your hair, and I figured out what your favorite color was by what colors you used on the blog.

4. Get them laughing. Once again, this is a distracting point.

Not that I’m condoning visiting a psychic or any other fortune teller or the like, but I had to share what I learned.

Thanks for playing along!

It’s My Birthday, But It’s All about YouYou

Today the Kansas girl herself turns 26. There’s something pleasant about an even-numbered birthday isn’t there? Or is that just me?

Remember last summer when I did a YouYou? A YouYou is the opposite of a MeMe; instead of a post about 7 things about me or whatever, it’s a post about you. All you have to do is comment on this post and I’ll tell you (in the comments):

1. What I’d buy you for Christmas if we were RL friends
2. What color you would dye your hair if you had the guts
3. Your favorite ice cream flavor
4. Your favorite store in the mall

See, wishing me “happy birthday” pays off! It doesn’t matter how well I know you, really. I’ll give it my best shot, regardless!

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! Sure, I’ve been posting what I’m thankful for everyday, but I thought I’d do this fun meme from Jen, showing 5 pictures of things I’m grateful for.
Why am I posting this so early this morning? Well, I scheduled it to post for the very hour I’ve set my alarm clock to go off. Yes, I had to get up at 3:45 this morning. My flight out is at 6, I want to make sure I have plenty of time to get to the airport, get parked, get to the terminal, and get my bag checked. Days like today I’m very thankful that I live 25 minutes closer to the airport than I used to!

In case you’re still getting to know me, I should fill you in on my destination. I’m flying home to Kansas from my North Carolina home. I’ll be flying back just as early Monday morning, when I’ll go to work for a few crazy hours before a week of training (oh, and a final). It’ll be crazy!

See, my body is acting like 3:45 AM Thursday instead of noon Monday and going on, and on, and on. Now to the meme.

I’m thankful for:

1. My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ

(totally used the same picture Jen used because it’s a good one)

2. My family

3. My friends (it takes a lot to put up with me in real life)

(I won’t put their pictures up here without permission, but here’s one of my friend’s blindfolded for a birthday surprise several years ago. Since she’s blindfolded, it kinda looks like she’s doing this against her will, which I suppose she is.)

4. My church

5. Having food, water, clothing, and shelter, and in abudance. SO easy to overlook.

I hope you all enjoy the holiday, and take the time to give thanks to God!
