Tuesday’s Tidbits

1.  The snow is melting nicely, though it’s C-O-L-D.  Twenty degrees might have been a normal low when I lived in Kansas, but I’m certainly not used to it here!  I’m looking forward to the spring weather we’re expecting this weekend…and Daylight Saving Time!

2.  Over on the Book Nook, I’m giving away one book of the winner’s choice off a list of the Book Nook’s favorites.  Stop by and enter in!

3.  Has anyone else noticed Dunkin’ Donuts new slogan?  It’s “You kin’ do it.”  Kin’?  Really?  What is the apostrophe there for?  What letter is missing at the end of the word “kin,” considering they changed the spelling of “can” to be…cutesy?  I don’t care how you say it, the word is “can.”

4.  This past weekend I did nothing productive in any sense of the word, except laundry.  I don’t necessarily have to be as productive on my weekends as when I was a student, but I didn’t even do any reading or writing to speak of.  Ugh.  It’s definitely motivating me to have a plan for this coming weekend.  There are books to read, people!  I can’t just sit around and watch TV!

Swimsuit or Formal Wear?

This is exactly why I should pre-write posts and have them scheduled.  I’m drawing a blank this morning.  The pressure of “I’ve got to get a post out today, and now’s the best time to do it” certainly dampens whatever creativity or inspiration might be found within me.

Instead of a well-thought-out post, I’m going to ask a question.  The first person to comment on this post will please answer the question, and then ask a question of their own to be answered by the next commenter.  And so on.  Got it?

Answer the latest question, and ask another.  Feel free to comment more than once if you get into it!

First question: Would you rather wear a swimsuit everyday or a formal dress/suit?

I’ll Be Home for the Holidays

Right about this hour, I’m leaving mild North Carolina for wintery Kansas. Brrr! I hope I remembered to pack my gloves and scarf; I tend to forget them.

If you think about it, pray that I’ll make it to my destination, and if they’re delays, for patience.  I’m traveling through O’Hare and it’s supposed to be less than pleasant weather.  Last year I wasn’t expecting to be delayed a day and my bag another 2 days though I was, but this year I am.  Guess I’ll do lots of reading and writing in the airport!

In completely unrelated news, I looked out the window and noticed that there is a pine tree with hundreds of pine cones on it in its highest branches, 40-50 feet off the ground (I’m pre-writing this a week ahead of time). I wonder how bad it would hurt if one of those were to hit you on the head? What about two or three? How many bumps on the head from pine cones traveling 40 feet would it take to knock someone out? How far up the tree would you have to crawl to shake them out?

With those bits of randomness, Merry Christmas! Talk to you on the other side!

A Peek Inside My Brain

Okay, I’m still not quite up to my usual blogging self. Not really sure what the deal is. Please help me out by going back to yesterday’s post and asking me a question or two! Answers forthcoming tomorrow.

Today you’re in for a treat, or maybe this will just disturb you. I’ve tried to take note of every time a bizarro thought has come to mind. So climb aboard the Magic School Bus (I loved those books as a kid!)…

I saw something in my trunk that says, “Merry Christmas.” Nope, it’s not a future Christmas present.

It’s weird to find out someone’s real name if you’ve only known them by their bloggy alias. I guess I forget that they have real names.

Flipping through my reading/writing journal I saw the phrase “clown pants.”

I’ve never been good at blowing out candles. I guess it doesn’t matter how much hot air you have.

Why am I so tired? Maybe I just have a case of the Mondays.

North Carolina is my state. Weird.

I can type with one hand, as long as that one hand is my left hand. I can only hunt and peck with my right hand. I really don’t think the keys move…

Maybe this is early, but I don’t think I can jinx it anyway: I’m already thinking about good natured trash talk to use with Jen.

Fluffy starts with flu.

R-A-N-D-O-M, What Does That Spell? Random!

Okay, time for another random post of random thoughts that I’ve been randomly thinking.

1. I’m not as clumsy as I think I am. I just used up the box of band-aids that my mom bought me when I went off to college, 7 years ago. And I’ve liberally let my roommates “borrow” some through the years.

2. Keeping a tight record of my expenses this month has been revealing. I can now see where I’m getting bent out of shape! Now I just have to figure out how to fix it.

3. I’m designing a site for work using WordPress. I so love the software better than Blogger. I really don’t want to switch, though. I just wished that I had started on WordPress to begin with.

4. I got a solicitation in the mail late last week from AIG. Haha. Do I get a discount if I’m a joint-owner?

5. I work with guys. I don’t mind it any, but the office does seem to get a bit (a lot) cluttered at times. We talked a few weeks ago about needing to take some time to clean it out before some big things start happening this winter. Then today we found out a TV crew were going to come in to interview my boss for a story. In 3 hours, this place was clean! It feels good to have an organized work environment. I’m an organized person by nature, but I always have a pile of “stuff” on my desk, both at work or at home. It just gets really large at work since my boss hands me stuff too. Even though the TV crew saw our office for about 2 seconds before they decided to take the interview outside (I think that was the original plan…they didn’t have a camera with them), it was worth it to get this place clean!

6. The road I drive home has 7 very narrow lanes (one, thankfully, being the chicken lane). It creeps me out as you’re driving only a foot or so away from the car next to you. I prefer to drive in the left hand land, where you can hang a little into the chicken lane. All of the sudden, I noticed that there was a dude on a bike in the middle of that chicken lane! I’m one of those drivers who actually treats bikers with respect, not passing them until I’m at least 6 feet away. I had no choice but to drive close to him. But I guess that’s his own choice for driving in the chicken lane (and he didn’t look like he was going to turn). The worst part? He was on his cell phone! In the middle of a busy street! At rush hour!

7. And, to make it an even seven (though seven isn’t even even), I’ve been awarded. Dawn and Frizzy (at Heaven’s Gift) gave me the “I Heart Your Blog” Award:

Gramma 2 Many gave me:

And finally, Dawn gave me the Arte y Pico award:

Thanks, ladies! What can you learn from this? That I’m both loved and very late. That doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate them! I’m sure I’m breaking rules by not passing them on, but if you want to know who I would “award,” just check out my 400th post where I gushed about them.

Okay, that’s it for now. Oh, except something special is going on here tomorrow. What is it? Well, you’ll have to stay tuned to find out!

Random Thoughts That Don’t Fit Anywhere Else

Yesterday my roommate and I were giddy about the possibility our class might be cancelled this morning due to snowy weather. We love the class, but it would be wonderful to have the morning off to sleep in. Unfortunately, whatever snow might have fallen melted in the rain that greeted me when I awoke this morning.

The other day as I was driving down a main highway, a cloud of recently cut pine tree pieces exploded all over the car. It was windy, so I guess a gust hit the pile of rubbish (don’t you just love that word?) just right to blow it all over my car. The angle of the brush blowing up from the ground definitely made it look like a little explosion. There were no workers around who could have thrown/blown the pile, so it was the winds fault.
His name is Mikey. Yes, he is still there, and it doesn’t bother me one bit.
