19. What are you doing this summer?

Nothing different.  No trips at all planned, due to lack of cash and vacation days (saving them up for November).  I do plan on keeping up the building of good habits that I’ve been trying to do lately.  And watch SYTYCD.  It’s really the only show that I’ll watch that you have a hard time missing a week on.

If I were to cheat, it would be part of the Ocean’s 11 Danny/Tess conversation, but if we’re talking about one line, I’d have to say the Pirates quote I mentioned the other day, “She’s safe, just like I promised. She’s all set to marry Norrington, just like she promised. And you get to die for her, just like you promised. So we’re all men of our word, really. Except Elizabeth, who is in fact, a woman.”   I don’t know what it is about it.

Boys are yucky.

If it weren’t for Gone with the Wind, I think Scarlet would be a neat name, but I’d hate her to turn out to be a spoiled brat.  If it weren’t for a high school boyfriend, I would love the name Grant.  So yeah, not those names.

25. What is the coolest restaurant you’ve ever been to?

Tuesday’s Tidbits

1.  The snow is melting nicely, though it’s C-O-L-D.  Twenty degrees might have been a normal low when I lived in Kansas, but I’m certainly not used to it here!  I’m looking forward to the spring weather we’re expecting this weekend…and Daylight Saving Time!

2.  Over on the Book Nook, I’m giving away one book of the winner’s choice off a list of the Book Nook’s favorites.  Stop by and enter in!

3.  Has anyone else noticed Dunkin’ Donuts new slogan?  It’s “You kin’ do it.”  Kin’?  Really?  What is the apostrophe there for?  What letter is missing at the end of the word “kin,” considering they changed the spelling of “can” to be…cutesy?  I don’t care how you say it, the word is “can.”

4.  This past weekend I did nothing productive in any sense of the word, except laundry.  I don’t necessarily have to be as productive on my weekends as when I was a student, but I didn’t even do any reading or writing to speak of.  Ugh.  It’s definitely motivating me to have a plan for this coming weekend.  There are books to read, people!  I can’t just sit around and watch TV!

I’m a TV Weanie

I like to watch television, I really do.  I know most of you do, too.  But over the last year or so, I’ve realized that I had to cut out watching shows that I just must see.  I don’t have a DVR, so if I watch TV, it must be live.  I found that I was limiting social opportunities because I couldn’t plan things on certain nights/times because I would miss my shows.  The hardest ones to miss, I found, were reality shows (Survivor, the Amazing Race, and American Idol), because I didn’t want to miss what happened each week.

I still occasionally catch 30 Rock, Numb3rs, or a CSI, but these don’t require me to watch every episode.  I make them a treat for when I happen to be home at that time and don’t have anything else pressing.  I also have started watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, because they come on during my typical dinnertime downtime and don’t require close, or regular watching.

There’s really only two exceptions: sports (for obvious reasons, but I only have to watch Big XII football and the NCAA tournament when they’re on) and in the summer, for SYTYCD because it IS the summer, and my friends like to watch it with me.

I don’t feel I need to cut TV watching out of my life completely, but I have limited it.  I don’t have to watch TV everyday, and more often than not, I’d rather read than watch TV anyway.  Since I’ve weaned myself off of must-see TV, I guess you could call me a TV weanie.

What show would you find to be the hardest to give up watching?

School Bus Reality

I’m embarrassed to admit this, but recently I’ve been enjoying a little bit of reality television. I know, it only requires a low level of brain use while being entertained, but that’s exactly what I need sometimes. At least I read classic books, right?
Last week when I was watching Kid Nation, I remembered a thought that I had as a kid. I used to think that the things that would occur on our middle school bus were noteworthy, even television worthy. I thought it would be cool to make a daily show about the things that happened on the bus.
I now realize that my life is not exciting enough to make for good television, but what I had been imagining in my head was a reality show, before reality television became popular and certainly before I knew about it.
Did you have any crazy ideas as a kid that weren’t so crazy after all?
